Background Information - Job-specific


The OQ is seeking to recruit an Intern to undertake a summer internship with the Rule of Law Team, and to contribute to the implementation of OQ’s development agenda. The Rule of Law intern will support the work of the team in all aspects of project delivery during the course of the internship, including: assisting in background research, writing and analysis, project communication and event organization, presentation and communication support, and any other relevant tasks. 

Functional Responsibilities

Specifically, the Rule of Law intern will contribute to the following areas during the course of the internship: 


  • Assist in research, analysis and writing related to justice and the legal framework of Paris Protocol, the trade regime between the Palestinian Authority and Government of Israel. 

  • Presentation and communication support.


Deliverables


  • Support the delivery of one or more work streams of an OQ priority project in the Rule of Law team.

  • Contribute to project monitoring and evaluation.

  • Support the development and updating of project documentation including charts, presentations, background research and other tasks relevant to the project(s).

  • Support the Rule of Law team in preparation for and during internal and external meetings.

  • Assist in the preparation of a range of written communication documents (such as reports, letters, emails and presentations) for internal and external project stakeholders as needed.

  • Assist with the organization of meetings, workshops and conferences.


Research, Analysis, and Writing:


  • Support the Rule of Law team in conducting original and synthesized research, project or survey design, where necessary.

  • Assist in background research, literature reviews and other written inputs.

  • Assist the team in drafting reports, papers, briefs, and memos as requested.

  • Monitor the Rule of Law sector related news and developments. 

  • Assist in developing a variety of presentations both in response to project needs and other OQ priorities.

  • Draft and assemble materials for internal and external meetings, as required.

  • Work closely with the team to generate document structure, text and graphics, conduct research and analysis, and pull together a compelling set of materials.

  • Support preparation of other outreach activities, as required.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

The candidate must be currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a Bachelor/Master’s
Degree in a Law or have graduated from such studies within three years
prior to the application date of the internship.

Language:

Fluency in English and Arabic is essential

Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent writing, research and communication skills. 

  • Great attention to detail, information and data accuracy. 

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an ability to work independently and effectively in a team, and to excel in a multi-cultural environment.

  • A proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, juggle multiple competing tasks and prioritize demands appropriately.

  • Responds positively to critical feedback and differing points of views.

  • Demonstrated competence in using standard office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) in addition to Microsoft Teams and relevant applications.

  • Experience in international organizations or the Rule of Law sector is an asset

Contract type, level and duration

Contract type: Internship

Contract level: Intern
Contract duration: 3 months renewable upon satisfactory performance up to a maximum 12 months.


Interns are responsible for all costs associated with the internship, including but not limited to costs for insurance coverage, travel and accommodation. Interns are responsible for arranging their own travel and securing any necessary visas.
Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. There should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.
