NRC in Jordan

Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) established its presence in Jordan in November 2012 in response to the conflict in Syria and the resulting refugee influx. NRC Jordan currently employs over 500 staff in Jordan and is one of the largest INGOs in the country. Since 2012, NRC has worked to build the resilience of Syrian refugees in Jordan, and invest in the Jordanian communities that host them. NRC supports Syrian refugees in Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps, as well as vulnerable refugees and Jordanians in north and central Jordan (Irbid, Jerash, Ajloun, Mafraq and Amman governorates). In Jordan, NRC provides services in five of NRC’s global core competencies: Shelter, Education, Youth, Livelihoods and Information Counselling and Legal Assistance. NRC strives to combine its programmatic activities with evidenced-based advocacy work focused on policy change and strong external communications and media engagement. The Country Office also works to ensure safe and integrated programming through ensuring protection is effectively mainstreamed across all core competencies.

Duties and responsibilities

The purpose of the Logistic Manager is to ensure that the logistics department is run according to NRC standards and supports programme/project implementation. The following is a brief description of the role:

Generic responsibilities

  • Ensure that country set up is compliant with the Logistics Handbook, NRC policies and donor requirements.
  • Implement NRC’s logistics systems and procedures.
  • Training and support of line managers and staff with logistical responsibilities. 
  • Management of the logistics team.
  • Ensure anti-corruption focus in procedures and trainings.
  • Establish filing systems/archives according to NRC standards in all offices.
  • Initiate and maintain necessary leases, licenses and contracts with relevant authorities and suppliers.
  • Provide regular analysis and reports.
  • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy.

Specific responsibilities

  • Development of formalized in country logistics policy documentation in line with NRC Global procedures.
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring Areas’ decentralization process including customized staff training.
  • Plan and implement logistics’ strategic objectives in line with NRC Jordan strategy and global NRC objectives.
  • Review and improve logistics’ structure to improve performance and cost efficiency.
  • Collects, compiles, analyzes, investigates, researches, or applies logistics data and information.
  • Develops, modifies, prepares or validates documentation in relation to automated logistics or maintenance data reporting systems and management information systems.
  • Lead on market surveys in light of NRC program’s need to improve implementation with a continuous review and improvement of local framework agreements.
  • Close and regular communication, coordination and planning with all logistics and program heads in all NRC AO.
  • Directly assisting and contributing to program and project design, including budget development.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience from working in a similar Logistics managerial capacity in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge and skills in relevant data analysis and best practices in humanitarian logistics
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal

Additional Information

- Duty Station: Amman, 10% travel within Jordan.
- Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions.
