VACANCY  ANNOUNCEMENT TEMPORARY APPOINTMENT OF PROJECT PERSONNEL

Organizational Context

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental sustainability. The mission of UNIDO, as described in the Lima Declaration adopted at the fifteenth session of the UNIDO General Conference in 2013, is to promote and accelerate inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID) in Member States. The relevance of ISID as an integrated approach to all three pillars of sustainable development is recognized by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will frame United Nations and country efforts towards sustainable development in the next fifteen years. UNIDO’s mandate is fully recognized in SDG-9, which calls to “Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation”. The relevance of ISID, however, applies in greater or lesser extent to all SDGs. Accordingly, the Organization’s programmatic focus is structured in four strategic priorities: Creating shared prosperity; Advancing economic competitiveness; Safeguarding the environment; and Strengthening knowledge and institutions. Each of these programmatic fields of activity contains a number of individual programmes, which are implemented in a holistic manner to achieve effective outcomes and impacts through UNIDO’s four enabling functions: (i) technical cooperation; (ii) analytical and research functions and policy advisory services; (iii) normative functions and standards and quality-related activities; and (iv) convening and partnerships for knowledge transfer, networking and industrial cooperation. Such core functions are carried out in Departments/Offices in its Headquarters, Regional Offices and Hubs and Country Offices.

This position is located under the Department of Policy Research and Statistics (PRS). Under the overall direction of the Director General and the supervision of the Managing Director, and working in close collaboration with all organizational units within UNIDO, PRS develops and provides industrial policy advice to Member States, based on evidence emerging from thematic, regional, country and sectoral analyses of industrial development and processes of structural change. Through the Research and Industrial Policy Advice (RPA) Division and in close cooperation with other relevant organizational units, the Department develops UNIDO’s capacity building and research programmes, advocates inclusive and sustainable industrial development as the main approach to reduce poverty and combat climate change, forges strategic partnerships to enhance UNIDO’s own expertise, and strengthens the capacity of Member States in related areas.

PROJECT CONTEXT Project 190326– Industrial Analytics Platform (IAP) (Phase II) As one of UNIDO’s primary instruments for advancing policy dialogue, building institutional capacities and creating global communities of practice in the field of industrial development, the recently launched UNIDO Industrial Analytics Platform (iap.unido.org) provides information and analysis on the state of industrial development around the world and can be used to provide capacity-building services in the context of specific country/regional needs and policies. The second phase of the project aims to build on the existing achievements and accelerate knowledge creation and capacity development among relevant stakeholders (policymakers, researchers and private sector participants, among others) on issues related to industrial development through further technical upgrading, practical deployment and mainstreaming of the platform as an integral part of UNIDO’s broader mandate on supporting inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID). DURATION: 30 days (part-time) DUTY STATION: Home-based The Digital Editor is expected to support and contribute to further development of content for the IAP (Phase II). S/he will perform the duties indicated below under the guidance of UNIDO staff in charge of this component of the project.

Main Functions

Preparing (proof-reading, styling and copy-editing) articles/opinion pieces for publishing under the Articles section on the IAP. Updating the guidelines on content creation. Ongoing support with copyediting/proof reading of pages on IAP.
