Organizational setting\:

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO representatives, is to assist governments to develop policies , programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

FAO South Sudan supports community efforts to promote rural development and strengthen food security, raise agricultural production, improve efficiency in land and water use, and achieve optimum utilization of forestry and fisheries resources. To this effect, FAO South Sudan is delivering on both emergency livelihood response and resilience building projects with extension services delivery as a cross cutting responsibility.

The Field Extension Facilitator (FEFs) will be based in following hubs\: Yambio, Bor, Kuajok, Juba, Bentiu, Torit, Pibor, Abyei, Maban, Aweil, Rumbek and wau.

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of Head of Field Office, the incumbent will directly report to the deputy Head of field office. She/he will be responsible for all the data collection and monitoring work at the field level.

Technical Focus

Work with deputy head of field office in close collaboration at county level to ensure all required data are captured, analyses and monitored, responded to requirement appropriately and timely manner.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Conduct beneficiary targeting and selection in collaboration with NGO partners and the Local authorities
  • Provide support to the service providers during inputs distribution and related activities
  • Support direct implemented directly by FAO at the county
  • In collaboration with IPs and local extension institutions, conduct beneficiary training and provide technical backstopping to Implementing Partners during trainings and extension service delivery to ensure compliance with letters of agreement
  • Monitor on a regular basis key agriculture, livestock, NRM and food security early warning indicators such as market prices (weekly), rainfall (daily), livestock (monthly) and crop conditions (monthly);
  • Support the existing networks of enumerators (e.g. County Crop Monitoring Committees - CCMCs) who are engaged in the monitoring of agriculture and food security early warning indicators;
  • Ensure visibility of FAO and the donor at the township, village tract and community levels according to the FAO’s visibility and communication strategies;
  • Support the M&E Associate to conduct post distribution monitoring, post planting surveys and post harvesting surveys.
  • Patriciate in interagency assessment and rapid emergency response
  • Report weekly on the progress of field activities, on the performance of the Implementing Partners and on any other issue that might be relevant to FAO’s field activity programming
  • Perform other related duties and activities upon instructions from Head of Field Office
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
  • Certificate/Diploma in agriculture/Livestock/food security/rural economy/rural development/Natural Resources Management or related field, with graduate qualifications preferred.
  • At least 2 year of relevant experience in Extension and training.
  • Working knowledge of English and local languages.
  • Must be a Sudanese Sudan national

Technical/Functional Skills

  • Work experience in more than one location or area of work
  • Extent and relevance of experience in monitoring agriculture and or food security projects.
  • Ability to work in rural and remote areas.
  • Demonstrated field experience in the implementation of Humanitarian and development projects
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with others including FAO colleagues, partners, authorities and beneficiary communities.
  • Experience in community based development and participatory approaches and in particular people-cantered approach in communicating, creating awareness, and monitoring of projects
