Risk Education Field Assistant

DRC Syria

DRC has been actively operating in Syria since 2008 mainly supporting refugees. In June 2012, DRC was authorized by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to expand its humanitarian efforts and provide assistance to IDPs and the vulnerable resident population countrywide. Since then, DRC activities have been focused on NFI distributions, Shelter, WASH, Protection, Education, Livelihoods and Mine Risk Education in six Governorates (Damascus, Rural Damascus, Dara'a, Aleppo, Hama, and Homs). While Protection/community service activities are provided to beneficiaries throughout our six Community Centers.

About the job

Mine action, in the form of mapping and surveying, risk education, and land clearance, needs in Syria are immense. DRC Syria is, currently, the only Mine Action INGO registered in Damascus and hence is uniquely positioned to influence, and benefit from, this process. The Risk Education Field Assistant has the responsibility for implementing and reporting on Risk Education (RE) activities in the communities as directed by the Risk Education Programme Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Liaise with affected communities, local authorities, government bodies, NGO’s and development agencies, in the governorate s/he is assigned to, depending on specific tasks
• Collect information on mine/UXO affected communities; complete surveys, accident and victim reports, and community assessments.
• Deliver targeted Risk Education sessions to at-risk communities
• Deliver training and support to key people to enable them to implement RE activities in at-risk communities
• Field test resources, including MRE materials and prioritization tools, where instructed
• Collect information where required for Monitoring and Evaluation of the project
• Feedback to the RE PM on the progress of activities
• Record the impact of the projects and the need for future work through the collection of Case Studies Information, photographs, videos, needs assessments and evaluation reports
• Any other duties requested by the RE Field Officer or RE Programme Manager

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have

Required

• Associate degree (institute)
• Minimum of one year experience in Risk Education or related field
• Previous experience in training, facilitation, community-based education, public communication or teaching.
• Strong communication and networking skills
• Good spoken and written English language skills
• Excellent spoken and written Arabic language skills

Desirable

• Previous experience working with an (I)NGO will be an asset

We offer

Contract Length:  up to six months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff.
