How can you make a difference?

The Curriculum Development Assistant will work with current curriculum developers to collaborate and assist in the enhancement and development of new and existing learning courses.

This will involve:

Under the direction of the Learning and Development Specialist, the consultant will assist the work of existing consultants using the most appropriate e-learning authoring tools, to undertake the following tasks.

  • Assist in the conversion of existing instructor led and work-shadow courses into e-learning curriculum
  • Assist the development of new courses as directed by GSSC
  • Provide design and creative support to developers in current e-learning development projects including:
    • Graphic design 
    • Video production assistance 
    • Photographic assistance

This a national consultancy. Applicant must prove eligibility to work in Hungary, if applicant is non-Hungarian citizen (copy of passport in case of EU citizens; work visa in case of non-EU citizens), proof must be submitted at the time of application, or the application will be rejected. This office will NOT provide visa/work permission assistance.

Applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Undergraduate degree in graphic design, curriculum design, and/or related field 
  • Minimum 6-months work experience in e-learning, courseware design and/or curriculum content development
  • Proven experience of creating learning content in e-learning authoring tools, such as Adobe Captivate, Articulate, Storyline, etc.
  • Video production experience is desirable
  • Advanced English language skills are required
  • Good analytical and communication skills
  • Ability to lead and support implementation under time limits
  • Ability to work in a team

Mandatory Requirements

This is a full-time assignment for a junior level developer and is suitable for someone starting their career.

The candidate must include the following in their submission:

  • CV detailing education background and all relevant experience 
  • Motivation letter, explaining candidate’s interest in e-learning and curriculum design.
  • Sample of learning curriculum for review (either written or e-learning).
  • Two letters of reference regarding candidate’s suitability as per the minimum qualifications and competencies.
  • Financial Proposal indicating the daily rate for delivery of services. Financial proposal indicating the daily rate for delivery of services. The daily rate should be expressed in Hungarian forints (HUF) or U.S. dollars (USD). The offer must be all-inclusive and expressed in gross amounts. If applicable, the exchange rate to be used for currency conversion will be the United Nations rate of exchange.
  • Document to prove eligibility to work in Hungary, if applicant is non-Hungarian citizen (copy of passport in case of EU citizens; work visa in case of non-EU citizens).

Candidates will be subject to reference checks during the selection process.

Successful bidders will be required to accept UNICEF’s General Terms and Conditions for Service Contracts.

Location and duration

Work may be divided between on-site and off-site (work from home) with the approval of the Learning and Development Specialist. This is a full-time assignment for a junior level developer. When working at the GSSC premises, please note our location which is 1077 Wesselényi utca 16/a in Budapest, Hungary, under the supervision of the Learning and Development Specialist.

The consultancy is for 6 months. The approximate start time is August 2020.

Evaluation Criteria

Candidates who are under serious consideration will be evaluated by the following criteria:

  • Formal Education and training in relevant area
  • Relevant experience in e-learning and other technical tools; Captivate, Articulate, Storyline, PowerPoint, Photoshop
  • Demonstrate previous work samples and development experience in above mentioned e-learning tools
  • Evidence of ability to create e-learning content; design and development
  • Evidence of other skills: Skills, Language skills (English written and spoken), interpersonal skills, working independently, high quality of deliverables.

Candidates meeting technical requirements will be evaluated based on value for money of Financial Proposal.

Payment information

The consultant will be paid by the day, based on an 8-hour workday (total hours divided by 8 to determine the number of days). Based on new UNICEF guidelines, the consultant will also be paid for holidays and accrue 1.5 hours of vacation pay per month.

Each month the consultant will issue an invoice along with timesheet to the supervisor showing work progress for that month. The terms of payment are immediate after receipt of invoice and acceptance of work. Payment will be effected by bank transfer in the currency of the offer.

Individual consultants are not a standard employment arrangement, as payments will be made based on invoices submitted by the consultants on a monthly basis. Individual consultants are entirely responsible for the payment of all insurances, taxes, other contributions payable by the consultant on the payments made by UNICEF to the consultant for his invoices issued under this contract.

Terms of employment

Consultants are required to submit a statement of good health prior to commencement of work and to take full responsibility for the accuracy of that statement.

Consultants are responsible for arranging, at their own expense, life, health, and other forms of insurance covering the period of their services on behalf of UNICEF as they consider appropriate. Consultants are not eligible to participate in the life or health insurance schemes available to United Nations staff members.

Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and contributions in accordance with local laws. UNICEF is tax exempt entity and cannot assume nor undertake any liability for taxes, duties or other contributions payable by consultants on payments made under their contract with UNICEF.
