Psychosocial Support Officer (m/f/d) - National position

Malteser International is working in Myanmar since 2001 and currently employs more than 350 national staff in Rakhine, Shan and Kayin states, where our work aims at ensuring communities have access to primary health care services. We also offer comprehensive WASH and disaster risk reduction/climate change adaptation solutions, and provide relief after disasters. Malteser International strives to enable and empower the most vulnerable communities in marginalized areas through a participatory and sustainable approach.


 

 

Main Responsibilities:

• Assist the Project Manager in elaboration of monthly reports, including data collection, compiling and analysis

In close collaboration and cooperation with Project Manager and Consultant Team:

Capacity building:

• Conduct awareness raising and promotion of mental health and psychosocial well-being of community mobilizers and project team of Kayin
• In coordination with Consultant, support conduct of training need assessment and training to community mobilizers and project team on psychological first aid and other relevant topics

Psychosocial support for community:

• Work closely with WASH, PHC, MNCH team as well as PSEA and Gender focal of Malteser International (Kayin Program) on comprehensive Covid-19 outbreak response activities
• Refer persons in need of individual, group of family counselling, and/or for basic psycho social therapy (when needed), in order to alleviate their psychosocial difficulties within the project scope
• Closely coordinate project focal GBV and PSEA to support the victims for referral and other needs

Awareness raising and promotion of mental health:

• Closely coordinate and support community volunteer groups, school teachers, and community leaders in integration of MHPSS in community response to Covid-19 outbreak
• Develop/adapt and disseminate key messages to address MHPSS issues, reducing stigma related to Covid-19 outbreak

Qualifications:

• A relevant university degree or diploma; ideally a Nurse or Midwife by profession
• Ideally with relevant experience in providing psycho social support program and basic counselling
• An active listener, flexible and with empathetic attitude
• A good team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to conduct travels extensively in the project township and occasionally to other Project townships
• Preference for candidates who can speak Sagaw Kayin or Poe Kayin

Conditions:

• Start Date: as soon as possible
• Duty Station: Kayin State, Myanmar and its project areas
• Duration of contract: Until 31st Dec 2020 (Short Term)
