ABOUT THE ROLE
This is a unique opportunity to shape Amnesty International’s future work - ensuring gender mainstreaming and diversity is at the core of all of our human rights work and organisational practices. The Senior Advisor, Gender Mainstreaming/ Diversity will lead and facilitate effective gender mainstreaming and diversity initiatives across Amnesty International – from a capacity-building, programmatic, and organizational perspective – within its Secretariat, national entities, and leadership governance structures. This unique role has been recently re-located to the Global Strategy and Impact Programme - to underline the role’s centrality in shaping Amnesty’s overall strategic direction and standards of effectiveness. This is particularly relevant as Amnesty is due to adopt its new long-term global strategy in 2021, which this role will contribute to finalise. In particular, over the next 12 months, you will be ex pected to provide analysis, practical guidance and support on how gender and diversity aims can be achieved within the organisation - especially within Amnesty’s planning, monitoring and evaluation approach, project management processes, and capacity-building programmes to implement the new strategy. The role will work in close collaboration with the Gender, Sexuality and Identity team, and a network of gender experts from across the organisation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
* As member of the Management Team -lead, conceptualize and elaborate a capacity building vision, strategy and project(s) for effective gender mainstreaming across Amnesty’s strategic and operational plans.
* Make and sustain the internal case to the Movement for gender mainstreaming interventions and approaches and to work with Senior Leadership, Fundraising, GSI and GSIP to secure improved resources to sustain this work.
* Support the Senior Leadership Team, International Board and broader movement to ensure gender and diversity aims are realised and shape Amnesty’s direction.
* In collaboration with the Gender Sexuality and Identity team, facilitate the functioning of the Gender and Diversity Taskforce and broader delivery of ICM 2017: Decision 5.
* Generate, source, collate and commission gender mainstreaming intellectual knowledge, and programming tools and methodologies, to inform projects under Amnesty International’s strategic plan.
* Author and commission a repository of gender mainstreaming resources appropriate for Amnesty International.
* Participate in or lead internal strategic reflection and review processes, as appropriate and required, to support the Global Strategy Programme and ensure the priorities of the programme are being reflected and shape Amnesty’s direction
* Develop gender mainstreaming training resources and work with others to ensure integration of gender into broader training and induction protocols.
* Build a community of practice /focal points on gender mainstreaming across the movement.
* Conceptualize and facilitate systems to grow peer support, information and good practice sharing across Amnesty’s regional offices, global programs, Sections and structures
* Facilitate the development of a results framework for gender mainstreaming focal points for their implementation in their own regions, programs and entities.
* In collaboration with the Gender and Diversity Taskforce and International Board provide frameworks for improved integration of gender and diversity into the broader internal accountability mechanisms of Amnesty International.
* To lead and support internal auditing of effectiveness in gender mainstreaming and develop a framework for improved gender integration into project management systems.
* Map, advocate for and where possible instruct remedial interventions identified in internal and external gender mainstreaming reviews and audits.
* Provide advice for Amnesty programs and entities to correct inadequacies, imbalances, and inaccuracies identified in gender mainstreaming audits.

ABOUT YOU:
You will have strong technical expertise in gender analysis, gender mainstreaming, as well as diversity and inclusion program work – preferably within INGOs or similar civil society/international organisations contexts. The nature of this role will require you to work very closely with a huge variety of stakeholders across countries, areas of expertise and different level of maturity with regards to gender and inclusion. This will require you relying on extensive relationship-building and people skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others – especially to influence and negotiate decision-making including at most senior levels. Finally, as a member of the Gender & Diversity community within Amnesty, you will also be expected to have significant expert knowledge in at least one policy area that addresses gendered anti-discrimination, intersectional analysis, and the ways that human rights abuses are underpinned by intersecting inequalities.
