The mission of the Green Climate Fund (“GCF”, “Fund”) is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their peoples.

Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies.  It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change.

Position Objective

The Editorial Specialist, reporting to the Board Information Manager, is responsible for leading efforts to ensure all Board documents adhere to GCF editorial style, are of a consistently high standard and meet requirements for approved documentation processes.

 

The Editorial Specialist is part of the Documentation Team within the Office of Governance Affairs and works closely with the Board Support Team, the Board Co-Chairs’ teams and GCF colleagues across other divisions and offices. They also manage a roster of external consultants, including editorial consultants and report writers. 

 

The Editorial Specialist progresses Board document development to effectively and efficiently facilitate the work of the Board. They also provide editorial support for other documents produced by GCF as requested and editorial guidance to GCF staff as needed. Finally, the Editorial Specialist actively supports the work of the Office of Governance Affairs, including the provision of Board and Co-Chair support, the execution of three Board meetings a year, the development of Board documents, and the operationalization of governance processes, among others.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Purpose

  • Lead editorial oversight of all Board documents, and other GCF documents as necessary, providing editorial expertise for document development and finalization to ensure adherence to GCF editorial style;
  • Assist in developing and managing the overall Board documentation process of the GCF to ensure implementation of a fit-for-purpose approach and timely delivery of documents;
  • Develop editorial standards within GCF, supporting staff to improve writing and editorial work, as well as outside of GCF, ensuring a reliable roster of experienced and professional external consultants to assist with editing assignments;

 

Engagement

  • Advise teams on document processes and requirements, especially editorial requirements, to ensure a high standard and timely delivery of documents;
  • Build internal support for and effective engagement in Board document processes;
  • Engage with the Co-Chairs’ teams and the Board on Board document development processes to support effective Board decision-making;
  • Advise teams on editorial standards and requirements for non-Board documents as requested to build internal support for high-quality documents;

 

Delivery

  • Optimize approaches and build consistency in documentation processes and implementation to ensure effective engagement both internally and externally;
  • Devise and update editorial guidelines and information products to systematize and evolve processes as needed over time;
  • Organize knowledge to provide resources and tools that strengthen the quality of documentation processes and development;
  • Optimize the work of the Office of Governance Affairs to ensure successful implementation of annual work programme and objectives.

 

Required Experience and Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in English, literature, linguistics, communication or journalism and/or substantial experience in a similar post. Additional relevant years of experience may be considered in the absence of advanced degrees;
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of relevant work experience;
  • Proven drafting and editorial skills, along with a knowledge of editorial policies and practices at international organizations;
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, meet tight deadlines and maintain required productivity without compromising quality;
  • Precision and attention to detail. Ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in large volumes of text;
  • Proficiency in use of commonly used word-processing software;
  • Strong competence and autonomy in the use of standard software programmes: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access;
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of another United Nations language is an advantage.
