Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD) works to strengthen UN Women’s position as a partner of choice for gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) among governments and private sector actors around the world. The Division does this by positioning GEWE in the intergovernmental and multilateral fora, and engaging with governments and private sector corporations, foundations and individuals as policy, programme and resource partners. A key premise for SPD is that engagement with partners should be holistic based on multiple aspects of partnerships, including policy advocacy and resource mobilization.

SPD convenes a number of partnerships with private sector partners and seeks to ensure that these are complementary and synergistic. The Multi-Stakeholder Private Partnership Section brings these together, leveraging the range of UN Women’s partnership vehicles and its National Committees to achieve maximum impact for gender equality.  It is the driver of UN Women’s corporate engagement with the private sector both in terms of substantive partnership and resource mobilization.

With European Union funding, UN Women and the International Labour Organization have created an innovative programme that focuses on “Promoting women’s economic empowerment at work through responsible business conduct in G7 countries” (WE EMPOWER) that is being implemented over a period of three years 2018-2020. The project’s operational platform is the Women’s Empowerment Principles, established by the UN Global Compact and UN Women in 2010.

The EU-funded WE EMPOWER programme team manages the websites, www.EmpowerWomen.org, www.weps.org and welearn.unwomen.org:

Empower Women, the global movement for women’s economic empowerment (WEE), engages gender equality advocates and empowers women to achieve their full economic potential in more than 190 countries since 2013. Empower Women equips over a million women and men with resources, opportunities and a global platform to become change-makers and leaders in their communities. It is built on Sitecore.

Weps.org is the knowledge management platform for the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), which hosts the information about the principles, signatories and resources available for the WEPs network.

WeLearn is currently a prototype global learning portal (built on Moodle) that will offer experiential, personalized and learning curricula to support women’s full participation in the economy. WeLearn will focus on equipping women with the skills needed for the jobs of the future (entrepreneurship and employment), including 21st century skills. It will provide access to customized, skills-based learning paths, a supportive community of learners and change-makers, and connections to real-world learning and employment opportunities that will empower women and girls and build a more gender inclusive society. WeLearn will be piloted in Indonesia in 2019.

UN Women’s WE EMPOWER - G7 Programme will scale up its use of the platforms to host and disseminate capacity development materials  that contribute to women’s economic empowerment, including training and learning materials on the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), entrepreneurship, responsible business conduct, negotiation and other professional growth and skills development courses. Developing women’s competences is critical to provide them with the conditions for the best possible start in their lives and for making companies more effective. The WeLearn platform plays a critical role in providing women with access to tailored knowledge to do well in business and in the labour market. WE EMPOWER–G7 Programme facilitates capacity building and skills development sessions for women employees and women entrepreneurs, to help them acquire a skill they need to be more successful in their career and/or business.

Reporting to the Policy Adviser for WEE and WEPs, and under day-to-day supervision of the Innovation and Knowledge Management Specialist, the Learning and Training Consultant will be responsible for conceptualizing, launching, managing and monitoring the learning content. The Learning and Training Consultant will also work closely with independent experts [the “Experts”] who will develop the content for the 10 lessons as well as the selected contractor [the “Contractor”] that will prepare the instructional design and develop the 10 lessons.
