Youth Program Coordinator

The Youth Program Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of educational support services for refugee youth and their families, and community partners (including New York City public school staff, universities, and local organizations) working with refugee youth. The Youth Program Coordinator has primary responsibility for school enrollment support and the Academic Coaching program, which supports families of newly arrived children and youth to make a positive adjustment to school in NYC. S/he also plays a leading role in the Refugee Youth Summer Academy, which provides 6 weeks of intensive orientation and preparation for success in NYC public schools. The Youth Program Coordinator provides technical support to the IRC’s Saturday tutoring and leadership programs as needed. S/he works closely with colleagues to ensure that the Youth Program goals and objectives are accomplished using a holistic, collaborative approach, in partnership with school staff, partner organizations, parents, and refugee youth themselves. This position reports to the Education & Learning (E&L) Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

•Lead the Academic Coaching Program

oPlan Academic Coaching program annual activities in alignment with Education & Learning unit framework

oRecruit, train and manage a team of 4-8 Social Work student interns to serve as Academic Coaches to support caseloads of up to 25 students each

oOversee school enrollment process for all newly arrived youth, coordination with Case Management, schools, families, and advocates.

oOversee Academic Coaching program implementation, including intake, client assessment, individualized service planning and implementation, group workshops, and monitoring

•Manage administration, caregiver engagement and student support services for Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA)

oPlay a lead role in RYSA planning, including student recruitment and enrollment, staff and volunteer recruitment and hiring, and training

oSupervise program staff and volunteers (peer mentors and student support staff) and program activities

oLead the RYSA student support (guidance) team, designing guidance services, overseeing their implementation, and providing counseling as needed; handle disciplinary matters

•Provide technical assistance for Saturday Learning Series and Leaders in Training program implementation

oFacilitate caregiver workshops

oSupport in the planning and implementation of social-emotional learning opportunities for students

 

•Maintain program information and data collection systems in compliance with IRC standards and contractual obligations, contribute to strengthening program monitoring

oParticipate in Youth Program annual logical framework development and implementation, including design monitoring and evaluation activities related to Academic Coaching and RYSA

oEnsure program participants are properly enrolled and files are up to date

oEnsure program data is consistently collected and entered in relevant databases accordance with internal program framework and contractual obligations

oPrepare annual reports on programs supervised for internal purposes, and prepare contractually required reports for programs supervised

oOther duties as assigned
