The Safety & Wellness Department at the IRC in San Diego ensures that refugees, asylees, asylum seekers, SIVs with unique, emergency, and/or long-term needs have the support necessary to integrate into their new communities and become self-sufficient. Safety & Wellness services include but are not limited to: case management assistance to survivors of domestic violence and other crimes, wellness support groups, education and outreach to prevent violence, and women’s empowerment programming. 
Job Overview:
The Social Work Field Placement Coordinator’s main responsibility is overseeing and growing the social work student field placement program at the IRC in San Diego. The initial focus of the social work interns will be to provide case management support survivors of crime. Direct involvement and interaction in client screenings is required. The Social Work Field Placement Coordinator will also support facilitation of wellness groups, staff trainings, and supervise non-MSW interns and volunteers.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•Develop and maintain productive relationships with educational institutions, primarily in San Diego, with BSW/MSW programs;
•Complete training for BSW/MSW field placement supervision, as required by educational institution(s);
•Recruit and interview Social Work students for field placement, as well as other unit interns and volunteers;
•Act as point person for inquiries from potential Social Work field placement students and college instructors;
•Provide field supervision hours for BSW/MSW field placement students, as required by educational institution, and provide guidance on case management best practices, self-care, and adjusting to work in an office setting;
•Collaborate with other IRC departments and task supervisors as needed;
•Meet with Social Work instructors to complete field placement site visits, as needed;
•Coordinate with Social Work student to complete necessary field placement paperwork, including all placement evaluations required by educational institution;
•(Co)facilitate wellness groups with Safety & Wellness clients;
•Potentially provide case management for a reduced caseload of clients;
•Provide resources and trainings to new department caseworkers;
•Lead staff/intern trainings, based on expertise, on topics such as trauma-informed care, self-care, interpretation for domestic violence, etc.;
•Support staff and interns in conducting mental health and other screenings;
•Support creation of referral pathways, and standard operating procedures/guidance;
•Potentially hold case consultation office hours for other IRC department staff;
•Ensure compliance with confidentiality and reporting requirements;
•Other duties as required.
