UN Women: Chief, Multi-Stakeholder Private Partnership
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women for a fully productive society; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
The Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD) works to strengthen UN Women’s position as a partner of choice for gender equality and the empowerment of women (GEWE) among governments and private sector actors around the world. The Division does this by positioning GEWE in the intergovernmental and multilateral fora, and engaging with governments and private sector corporations, foundations and individuals as policy, programme and resource partners. A key premise for SPD is that engagement with partners should be holistic based on multiple aspects of partnerships, including policy advocacy and resource mobilization.
SPD convenes a number of partnerships with private sector partners and seeks to ensure that these are complementary and synergistic. The Multi-Stakeholder Private Partnership Section brings these together, leveraging the range of UN Women’s partnership vehicles and its National Committees to achieve maximum impact for gender equality. It is the driver of UN Women’s corporate engagement with the private sector both in terms of substantive partnership and resource mobilization.
Under the supervision of the Director of SPD, the Chief, Multi-Stakeholder Private Partnership will coordinate several teams working on clearly defined engagement initiatives and platforms with the private sector. The Chief manages and leads these teams and is responsible for ensuring that UN Women initiates and sustains high impact partnerships in a coherent manner such that its partnerships are holistic and connected and through their success grow partnerships, results and resource mobilisation. The Chief will also oversee private sector relations and the overall partnership portfolio with corporations, foundations, and private individuals, including through the network of National Committees and through them efforts related to individual and digital giving. The Chief further oversees UN Women’s efforts around the Women’s Empowerment Principles and their integration through the various partnership initiatives UN Women undertakes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manage the strategic direction and personnel of the Multi-Stakeholder Private Partnership Section:
- Oversee the overall performance of personnel in the section;
- Supervise senior staff members leading different workstreams within the partnerships initiatives cluster;
- Manage and oversee the annual work plans, objective setting, performance management, standards and expected results, and budget monitoring, in collaboration and discussion with the team;
- Supervise and asses work in progress to ensure delivery of results according to performance standards, overall objectives and accountability framework;
- Manage, guide development and coach personnel, provide an enabling and positive work environment, foster teamwork;
- Provide technical guidance, and oversee progress of implementation of activities;
- Ensure sound operational and financial management.
Oversee and catalyse UN Women partnerships and resource development plan in relation to corporations, foundations, and private individuals:
- Lead and oversee the development, dissemination and implementation of the UN Women global private sector partnership strategy in relation to corporations, foundations and private individuals;
- Review and refine the strategy at regular intervals;
- Oversee and guide efforts to grow UN Women’s network of National Committees and through them individual giving as a significant source of regular resource revenue.
Lead and coordinate several corporate partnership initiatives, including Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs), the Unstereotype Alliance, HeForShe, and the Global Innovation Coalition for Change:
- Grow partnership networks, with a strong ownership of UN Women mandate, to champion Corporate Social responsibility (CSR) in support of women and girls throughout the world;
- Promote integration and coherence between UN Women’s various partnership initiatives that engage the private sector.
- Create whole-of-partner holistic account management in team, to fully leverage portfolio of partnership options, including grant management;
- Manage due diligence process regarding selection of corporations or individuals in a partnership network or initiative, and their adhesion to the network’s principles or criteria for association;
- Oversee the coordination of partnership network meetings and events;
- Oversee the stewardship of funds, and ensure customer service including monitoring of donor interest, planning and execution of visibility plans, and senior leadership engagement.
Establish the proper infrastructure and best practices for effective partnership development and management:
- Jointly design an integrated fundraising, advocacy and communication system and modality to achieve enhanced relationship management in collaboration with the key business units of UN Women including Regional Offices, Programme and Policy Division and the Heads of a newly-established UN Women global network of private sector partnership across the organisation;
- Update due diligence and other relevant guidance, and promote adherence, in line with UN system-wide standards;
- Co-lead the development and implementation of a customer relationship management system to support effective partnership development and management, as well as effective internal collaborations for UN Women worldwide, including with public-sector partnership teams;
- Ensure effective knowledge sharing through development and distribution of knowledge assets arising from the work of the Section;
- Identify and implement appropriate data and benchmarks to measure success in alignment with UN Women’s overarching strategic plan;
- Implement approaches to strengthen value proposition of UN Women.
Support other priorities of the Strategic Partnership Division or UN Women, as assigned by supervisor
Key Performance Indicators:
- Effective establishment of the partnership initiatives cluster that leverages UN Women’s various indicative in a holistic and synergistic way;
- Gender Equality and Women’s empowerment (GEWE) in private sector impact partnerships, corporate social responsibility, and philanthropic engagement advanced;
- Funding targets per annum, including for Regular Resources and Other Resources fulfilled;
- Timely attention and response to UN Women’s partners;
- Timely targeting of partnership opportunities and timely tracking and dissemination of partner intelligence;
- Quality communication and advocacy, which result in ‘alliances’ and a strong investment case for UN Women;
- Quality knowledge products and timely sharing of these with partners and within the organization for improved / enhanced holistic partner relations;

Required Skills and Experience
- Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, business management, social sciences, public administration, international relations, communications, women's studies, or a related field is required; A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in resource mobilization, communications/ advocacy, and/or business development;
- Experience in coordination of multi-stakeholder initiatives across a large and geographically and functionally diverse organization;
- Experience working with private sector corporations and foundations at a senior level;
- Experience leading a multi-cultural team;
- Experience with private sector individual fundraising techniques;
- Experience working on gender equality issues is an asset;
- Experience working in the UN system is an asset.
- Fluency in English is required;
- Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.
