Organizational Setting

The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in\: improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing indigenous capabilities around the world for national energy planning; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.

The department has a dynamic, participative and interactive operating environment with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community.

The Division of Nuclear Power comprises the Nuclear Power Engineering Section, the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section, the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section and the INPRO (International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles) Section. The Division provides core engineering, technological, human resource development and management support to interested Member States in the field of nuclear power.

The Nuclear Power Engineering Section (NPES) assists interested Member States in the development of the safe and effective operation of nuclear power plants and in the expansion of existing nuclear programmes. It provides guidance and encourages information exchange on engineering aspects of design, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, decommissioning; management and management systems; human resource development and performance improvement; expansion planning and strategies; and stakeholder involvement.


Main Purpose

As a member of the Nuclear Power Engineering Section(NPES), the Nuclear Power Data Analyst contributes to the development, maintenance and validation of the databases, manages web-applications, implements nuclear power plant production related projects and publishes technical documents in order to contribute to the IAEA's overall objective of fostering the exchange of information.

The Nuclear Power Data Analyst supports the ongoing development and recommends improvement of database structures and links between datasets; monitors and reports on the quality and maintains the update of the relevant websites linked to the databases. He/she develops analysis tools in order to enhance IAEA research, reporting and presentations that incorporate data.


Role

The Nuclear Power Data Analyst is\: (1) a technical expert, working with NPES team to support and enhance the effectiveness of collaboration in nuclear engineering development amongst Agency staff and experts in Member States; to implement and maintain technical databases and applications; (2) a custodian and a supporter of several databases and applications, including Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) and Country Nuclear Power Profiles (CNPP) database; (3) a network collecting, reviewing and disseminating the information by establishing networks; (4) a developer of several databases and their web sites; and (5) a responsible scientific secretary for nuclear power engineering projects and documents.

  • Support PRIS database and, its services and production of related IAEA publications.
  • Maintain and disseminate information of the Country Nuclear Power Profiles.
  • Support and maintain other nuclear power operation related databases and applications.
  • Provide statistical analysis of data for IAEA research, publications, presentations and reports.
  • Plan and organize meetings and exchange of information prepare technical reports and other publications on engineering issues and databases.
  • Provide technical management and support for TC projects as Technical Officer, develop strategy/action plans to achieve project milestones, organize and participate in seminars, workshops, expert missions, training courses, meetings with Member State counterparts concerning project progress and implementation.
  • Carry out networking/information exchanges at the IAEA, with the Member States and international organizations.
  • Maintain close cooperation with national and international organization in the area of engineering and power reactor information.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • A first level university degree in engineering or related field.
  • At least five years of working experience in the field of nuclear energy, of which four years of experience with nuclear power data/web site development/maintenance.  
  • Proven experience in nuclear power data management is required.
  • Experience with the creation and maintenance of databases, including data/information collection and dissemination is required.
  • Experience with data mining and statistical analysis, for example using SQL, programming XML, JavaScript, or ETL frameworks.
  • Experience in data visualization/presentation is required.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $60962 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 31578, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
