Reports to: The Senior Nutrition Adviser

Job location: This is a headquarters based position, however, the location of the role is negotiable
for the correct candidate
Pay Band: Band 5 (Adviser)
Contract: Two year, fixed term, with possibility for extension
Job Purpose:
Concern Worldwide is a non-governmental, international, humanitarian organisation dedicated to the
reduction of suffering and the elimination of extreme poverty in the world's poorest countries.
Concern is headquartered in Dublin with other principal offices in London, New York, Belfast, Seoul
and in each of the countries of operation.
Concern Worldwide works to develop and scale up effective, evidence-based interventions to
promote optimum health and nutrition, particularly among the extremely poor and vulnerable. The
organisation actively supports integrated programmes in 25 countries in the Health (including
nutrition), Livelihoods (including food security) and Education sectors. Concern currently supports
health and nutrition programmes in emergency, transition and development contexts in more than
15 countries.
The Nutrition Advisor will sit within the Strategy, Advocacy and Learning (SAL) team and closely liaise
with the other Nutrition Advisers in the head office. The adviser’s primary responsibility is to ensure
that Concern country programmes are enabled to deliver high-quality nutrition interventions. S/he
will be expected to provide high quality technical support to Concern’s nutrition and health work
across the range of countries in which Concern works—emergency, fragile/transitional and stable
development contexts—and with special focus on extremely poor and vulnerable populations. S/he
also contributes to organizational learning through documentation of best practices and development
of tools/resources designed for Concern program staff in the field.
The Nutrition Advisor will be an active part of Concern’s global nutrition team. Up to 35% international
travel is anticipated for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and strategic support for design, implementation, monitoring, and
    evaluation of country and multi-country nutrition programmes, including preventing and
    treating undernutrition, Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), the
    CMAM Surge Model (anticipating and responding to seasonal spikes and shocks), and
    promoting good Infant and Young Child Feeding, in line with Concern’s global health
    strategies and global best practice.
  • Support capacity building initiatives with Concern and partner staff including distance
    mentoring and information sharing, formal and informal training, and coaching during field
    visits; facilitate cross-country learning among Concern staff.
  • Develop tools and guidance in line with international best practice for staff use to improve
    program quality.
  • In coordination with country programme staff, synthesize, document, and disseminate
    lessons learned from Concern nutrition programming and research, including occasional
    preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in the exploration of nutrition funding opportunities and provide technical inputs
    as requested to proposals and budgets; support nutrition related advocacy initiatives as
  • Support and maintain relationships with other agencies and donors and represent Concern
    in national, regional and international forums as required; actively engage in nutrition
    networks with key institutions/agencies, universities, and donors as appropriate.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree in nutrition and/ or public health.
  • Strong, current knowledge in nutrition and good familiarity with recent developments.
  • Experience in Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM)
  • Experience in social and behaviour change approaches.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the management of nutrition programmes in varied developing
    country contexts including design, implementation, and monitoring of programmes.
  • Basic competence using quantitative, qualitative, and participatory methods for programme
    planning / design, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Prior experience in emergency, conflict settings, or fragile states.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills in English and French.
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 35% in poor and fragile contexts, sometimes on short
    notice and for 3+ weeks.


  • Experience in health system strengthening, the CMAM Surge approach and a good
    understanding of capacity building approaches integrating nutrition responses in routine
    health service delivery.
  • Field experience working with scaling up and integrating nutrition approaches such as
    CMAM into Ministry of Health systems.
  • Good understanding of multi-sectoral and integrated programming for nutrition.
