The Data & Analytics Section within the Division of Data, Analytics, Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) of UNICEF Headquarters leads the collection, validation, analysis, use and communication of the most statistically accurate internationally comparable data to drive transformational change for women and children around the world. We are seeking qualified consultants to support in our work of data analysis/processing in a variety of projects, including the impact of Covid-19 on children.

The Data & Analytics Section within the Division of Data, Analytics, Planning and Monitoring (DAPM) of UNICEF Headquarters leads the collection, validation, analysis, use and communication of the most statistically accurate internationally comparable data to drive transformational change for women and children around the world. We are seeking qualified consultants to support in our work of data analysis/processing in a variety of projects, including the impact of Covid-19 on children.

Such work includes compiling and updating a global database of cross-nationally comparable indicators on children and women, including many indicators of the UN Sustainable Development Goals; developing measurement methodologies, including new data collection and monitoring tools and questionnaires; conducting data processing and analyses; critical review of literature; evidence synthesis and disseminating data on children in a variety of ways including through flagship publications, thematic data-driven publications, our website, and brochures.

How can you make a difference?

The consultant aims to provide data processing, data analysis and research support in the following thematic areas:
• Child poverty and gender equality
• Child nutrition
• Child mortality and demographic analysis
• Child protection and development
• Education
• Health and HIV
• Water, sanitation and hygiene

The Data & Analytics Section, DAPM is building this call for interest roster for qualified candidates to express their interest to work with UNICEF. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. 

Selected consultants are expected to be home-based, and can be working from anywhere in the world.

Scope of Work & Expected Results:

The consultants will be expected to provide support as needed for the following data processing and analysis to generate analytical products for use in advocacy etc. Key tasks include:

• Support the design and implementation of the processing and analysis of data from surveys and censuses as well as administrative sources in the various areas about children and women (demography and mortality, disability, child protection, early child development, education, gender, health and HIV/AIDS, nutrition, poverty and inequalities, and WASH).
• Support the integration of different data-driven resources, such as summary tables, charts and relevant visuals to describe the situation of children.
• Conduct critical literature reviews and/or systematic reviews in specific thematic areas as listed above
• Support with review of global report products, including fact-checking and content updates as required.
• Support with drafting communication and dissemination materials related to the global report and other dissemination/communication materials on children.
• Support the assessment, compilation and quality assurance of cross-nationally comparable data for indicators on the situation of children
• Support producing and maintaining databases in thematic areas.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in statistics, or in one of the social sciences with strong qualitative and quantitative training.
    *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • Minimum 3-5 years proven professional work in research, social sciences, data analysis, public health, statistics, epidemiology, or demography at the national or international is required.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including proven experience in multivariate analysis of microdata from household surveys and interpretation of findings and results is required.
  • Statistical data processing proficiency in STATA, SPSS or R is required.
  • Strong technical and analytical writing skills is required, preferably in English.
  • Previous experience with conducting literature reviews and/or systematic reviews is required.
  • Previous experience with explaining, writing, and graphically representing research results is required.
  • Previous work experience in any of the thematic areas as listed above is an asset.
  • Development/maintenance of statistical databases is an asset.
  • Previous experience working with, or in, developing countries, is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently in a timely manner.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English is required. Working knowledge of another UN language will be an asset.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
