Org. Setting and Reporting

This position is located in the Office Accommodation Shop (OAS) in the Planning Design and Construction Section (PDCS), Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS), Division of Administration (DOA), Department of Operational Support (DOS). The incumbent reports to the Chief of PDCS. Under the direct supervision of the Unit Chief, the incumbent assumes full responsibility for: the movement and rearrangement of office furniture and equipment in offices and conference rooms, for the transporting of "Pouch" and "Archives" materials to their respective designations, for the setting up of social functions requested by the Secretary-General, either at the Secretariat or his private residence.

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the incumbent performs the following duties:
-Manages 7 in-house movers as well as contractual movers.
-Issues assignments based on work orders, job orders, requisitions, etc.
-Maintains major and miscellaneous emergency contacts (personal and telephone contact).
-Reviews and interprets partition layouts and furniture layouts (blueprints).
-Reviews and checks work done by Unit.
-Inspects premises before and after completion of work to ensure safety of staff and proper completion of the project to the satisfaction of the end user.
-Assigns personnel and equipment to ensure safe and speedy completion of jobs.
-Works closely with other units of the Facilities and Commercial Activities Service (FCAS) such as Carpet Shop, Painters, etc., in the coordination of projects; provides assistance as required.
-Establishes daily needs of outside movers and provides adequate guidance and supervision to ensure the understanding of the scope of the project.

Administrative duties:
-Maintains records of attendance.
-Completes all periodic reports based on work done by office laborers.
-Completes monthly reports based on work done by the Unit.
-Reviews and submits recommendations for promotions and increments for the Unit.
-Attends meeting and conferences related to FCAS and its related operations.
-Coordinates with outside moving firm(s) to ensure deployment of extra work force in conjunction with the Unit's daily activity.
-Dialogues periodically with in-house and outside movers and makes them aware of situations before they may turn into problems.
-Provides on-the-job training for movers by teaching methods and techniques for safe and efficient moving.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and rough drawings. Ability to properly move and store furniture and determine requirements that must be prioritized. Mechanical skills for bolting and unbolting furniture. Ability to lift, push or move items up to approximately 35 pounds. Ability to exercise judgement when relocating power, LAN and telephone outlets. Education

High School diploma or equivalent Trade School Diploma is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of seven years of experience in facilities management moving services or related area is required.
Experience coordinating office moves is required.
Experience supervising office moves is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice

Appointment or assignment against this position is for an initial period of one year.
