Under the supervision of the Emergency Specialist – Head of Unit, the consultant will be in charge of the planning, the monitoring and the coordination of EVD preparedness and COVID-19 response conducted in consortium with other UN agencies and of actively participating into the implementation of the COVID-19 response plan of the Unicef Burundi Office.

Under the supervision of the Emergency Specialist – Head of Unit, the consultant will be in charge of the planning, the monitoring and the coordination of EVD preparedness and COVID-19 response conducted in consortium with other UN agencies and of actively participating into the implementation of the COVID-19 response plan of the Unicef Burundi Office.

 

How can you make a difference?

  • Set up a system for monitoring the activities and indicators of projects carried out in consortium with the sections and agencies concerned;
  • Set up the administrative arrangements for partnership with the agencies of the consortium;
  • Regularly monitor the implementation of activities and the use of funds by the sections and agencies concerned;
  • Prepare a monthly update for donors funding consortium activities (e.g.DFID/USAID/etc.);
  • Collect and consolidate inputs for the drafting of donor reports (interim and final);
  • Participate actively in the development of the strategy for the response to the COVID-19 pandemic by the UNICEF office in Burundi - through the emergency preparedness platform, the updating of the COVID-19 response plan and integration into the HAC 2021 - and in coordination with the Ministry of Health and inter-partners (including UN agencies) - through the development of the Ministry's contingency plan, the Strategic Response Plan and operational plans by pillar of the response;
  • Follow up on the exchanges carried out within the framework of the COVID response pillars (including Risk Communication and Community Engagement, Infection Prevention and Control/WASH, Surveillance, Logistics, etc.) and inter-agency meetings (GTIA – Groupe Technique Inter Agencies, etc.);
  • Identify priorities and gaps, propose recommendations and draft project proposals;
  • Participate in reporting through the quarterly SitRep on humanitarian interventions conducted by Unicef in Burundi;
  • Perform quality assurance of the data collected through the existing tools of the office in relation to the COVID-19 response and provide technical inputs to the sections involved;
  • Proposes any necessary changes to the monitoring plan and package;
  • Participate in the animation of the Emergency Task Force within the Unicef office in Burundi on the COVID-19 response in order to ensure internal coordination;
  • Organize monthly meetings with the agencies involved in the EVD and COVID-19 consortia in order to ensure coordination of joint actions;
  • Providing other tasks related to his/her competences according to the needs of the CO.

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced University degree (Master) in one of the following fields: social sciences, public administration, law, public health, nutrition, international relations, business administration or other related disciplines.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional work experience at the national and/or international levels in programme/project development, planning, implementation, monitoring and coordination
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in French and with a good level of English (both written and spoken).

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
