UNICEF Togo is committed to working with the Government to strengthen a protective environment where girls and boys will no longer be victims of violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect, where communities and state services work together to promote behaviors and practices that help reduce the vulnerability of children and adolescents, as well as the risk factors they face, while building their resilience.

The Child Protection Component of the Togo-UNICEF programme is playing a key role to strengthen the establishment and functionality of an integrated child protection system at both the social services and community levels for improved access of children (girls and boys) to quality services for prevention and protection against violence, abuse and exploitation, justice for children, systematic registration of children at birth, promotion of positive social norms, and sector coordination and interaction with other sectors. The Child Protection Officer will be responsible for child justice issues and will significantly contribute to improving access to justice for children in Togo. The incumbent of the position will also contribute to the key activities of the Child Protection and Adolescent Empowerment program within the framework of the Government of Togo-UNlCEF cooperation program 2019 - 2023.

 

How can you make a difference?

Under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer (NO-B) and the overall guidance of the Chief Child Protection, the selected candidate will undertake the following key assignments:

  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of the activities of the project "Improvement of access to justice for children in Togo" and the Child Protection and Adolescent Empowerment program.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Justice to develop and implement the national juvenile justice strategy,
  • Provide technical support to relevant institutions and organizations for the implementation of judicial procedures in accordance with national juvenile justice guidelines and the international instruments ratified by Togo in the field of juvenile justice,
  • Analyse data and other information collected in the child protection sector in general and the juvenile justice sector in particular, prepare related activity reports; contribute to the development of annual work plans as well as to the preparation of other program documents/reports and ensure their quality,
  • Ensure the quality of financial, administrative and other supporting documentation related to supplies, process requests from implementing partners and verify that expenditures have been made within the allocated budget and in accordance with UNICEF rules and procedures;
  • Carry out field visits to ensure the implementation of program activities and provide useful information for the achievement of objectives; make recommendations to the supervisor to remedy difficulties encountered in the field,
  • Perform any other tasks requested by the supervisor in the implementation of the Child Protection and Adolescent Empowerment Program.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree (Bachelor) in one of the following fields is required: human rights, international law, or another relevant diploma in the field of international development.
  • A minimum of one year of professional experience in social development planning and management in child protection related areas is required
  • Experience working in a developing country is considered as an asset
  • Fluency in French is required. Knowledge of English and of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
