Job Overview: The Career Development Specialist is responsible for program implementation and service delivery for the Refugee Career Pathways Program, including assisting refugee clients in moving beyond entry-level jobs and gaining employment in their professional fields. Specifically, the Career Development Specialist works within a team to deliver client-facing services such as client assessments and intakes, career coaching, goal setting, job search assistance, soft-skills trainings, enrollment in post-secondary and certification programs, and coordinating additional services tailored to individual client needs.
Major Responsibilities:
Outreach and Enrollment
•Conduct outreach for the recruitment of eligible refugees skilled in specific sectors for the Refugee Career Pathways Program
•Work with IRC internal IRC programs to highlight the value of the program and screen referrals
•Conduct a thorough and equal assessment of applicants in conjunction with the Refugee Career Pathways team
•Complete intake and enrollment administration and case noting
•Collaborate to identify and cultivate training provider and employer relationships
Career Coaching and Technical Assistance
•Manage a client caseload, providing clients with one-on-one career coaching; this includes service planning, goal setting, resource mapping, assisting clients to enter and complete technical skills trainings, and continuous follow-up
•Implement technical assessments to gauge client strengths, weaknesses, and proficiencies
•Recruit skilled community members and employers to train clients through workshops and trainings on topics such as professional speaking, Email correspondence, and interviewing
•Support the Workforce Partnership Specialist in nurturing training provider relationships in all tracks offered, streamlining the application process, progress reporting, and ensuring strong credential attainment outcomes
•Actively engage in activities to assist client placement including referring applicable clients to positions, assisting in targeted interview preparation, and providing continued follow-up once clients are placed
•Research career industries and local resources to create accessible, applicable career pathways for participants that will reach program outcomes
•Document client participation and progress, adhering to grant requirements, and regularly collecting success stories
Service Documentation
•Use internal databases as assigned to track client services, outcomes, and metrics
•Engage with and, as necessary, develop supportive tracking systems for auxiliary information
•Comply with all financial and budget-related mechanisms and processes
Other Responsibilities
•Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engage as a member of the team
•Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency
•Other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree preferred
•At least 2 years’ experience working in employment and workforce programs required.
•At least 2 years’ experience with client counseling, case management, or coaching strongly preferred.
•Experience with higher education including community colleges, adult schools, and technical training providers is a plus.
•Multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds required
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation creation
•Experience using data and fiscal tracking systems strongly preferred
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
•Flexible availability necessary
•Proficiency in a refugee language such as Dari, Farsi, Pashto, or Arabic, an asset
