Organizational Setting
FAO in partnership with the Government of Moldova is implementing the project TCPF: Developing the institutional capacity of the National Forestry Agency in the preparation of NFI. The main objective is to strengthen national capacities to design, plan and conduct a forest inventory at the national level.
Reporting Lines
The International Specialist on Remote Sensing will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Moldova and the technical supervision of Forestry Officer, REU.
Technical Focus
Remote sensing, GIS and cartographic applications for forestry and forest inventories;
Tasks and responsibilities
- join various project teams and guarantee the necessary outputs requiring remote sensing, GIS or cartography data processing, analysis or expert knowledge. Forest inventories including national forest inventories, will be the major focus.
- prepare or supervise production of various mapping products or sample based surveys dealing with land categorisation according to FAO FRA terms and definitions as well as according to other international standards e.g. IPCC (LULUCF).
- identify suitable geographical areas for various project activities (afforestation, reforestation, enrichment planting, field based forest inventories etc.).
- assist with the preparation of project documents, work plans, activity descriptions, Terms of References (ToR), Letter of Agreements (LoA), trainings and similar inputs upon request by the Forestry Officer, REU.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- University degree in remote sensing, geomatics, forestry or related disciplines (MSc);
- At least 8 years of continuos professional experience (after graduation from University) in the field of remote sensing and GIS applications for forestry and forest inventories;
- Working knowledge of English and limited knowledge another official FAO language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian), preferably Russian for COF.REG. For PSA.SBS the working knowledge of only one language might be required.
