Communications Assistant

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Public Information Officer for the Nairobi Convention, the UNV will assist in the following tasks:

  • Support the update and launch of the Nairobi convention website; include writing articles and website articles and other content for SAPPHIRE/WIOSAP
  • Lead team in compiling weekly News Round-up for regional and international readership;
  • Maintain the Nairobi Convention experts’ database and support communication with the Government focal points and Institution partners;
  • Assist with Newsletters for the Nairobi Convention Projects, presentations, briefing notes and other informational materials;
  • Provide technical, administrative and logistical support to carry out social media campaigns. This includes recommending strategy and procedures to ensure effective implementation, online community engagement and participation, and optimum outreach and impact;
  • Liaise with different offices to ensure smooth delivery of communications strategy, i.e. Communications, Publishing, etc.
  • Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs supporting the Nairobi Convention WIOSAP and SAPPHIRE projects, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
  • Prepare reports for internal and external requests; and procedural monthly and quarterly reporting;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of Communications strategy. Document best practices, stories and lessons learnt and disseminate them;
  • Ensure documentation and reporting compliance with internal policies and external requirements;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in communications, international relations, political science, English, or a related field.
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • Professional experience: at least two years of experience in a communications role, preferably at an international organization, governmental institution, or non-governmental organization.
  • High level of spoken and written English fluency required. Knowledge of French would be an asset.
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Fluent
