IDLO and Gender Equality

IDLO’s gender work is guided by its Gender Strategy 2019 – 2020.  It focuses on four main areas of work (i) empowering women and girls to claim their rights; (ii) enhancing institutional capacity to respond to women and girls’ justice needs; (iii) eliminating discriminatory laws and strengthening legal and policy frameworks on gender equality; and (iv) championing justice for women and rule of law issues in global policy processes.   IDLO’s works on gender in various countries, including in Afghanistan, Honduras, Jordan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Liberia, Mali, Mexico, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Somalia, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda, and across thematic areas, such as on gender-based violence; women’s legal and economic empowerment; women justice professionals, women and customary and informal justice; and the elimination of discriminatory laws. 

THE POSITION

IDLO is seeking a Gender and Law Analyst to support the implementation of its current gender strategy and the drafting and implementation of its new one.  Under the direct supervision of IDLO’s Senior Legal Advisor on Gender, the Gender and Law Analyst will perform the following duties:

  • Support the implementation of IDLO’s current Gender Strategy and the development and implementation of a new one;
  • Support the institutional roll-out of IDLO’s Gender Strategy and tools through design and delivery of integrated training sessions and related resources;
  • Support the further development and implementation of IDLO’s gender tools, including conduct of a gender analysis and design of gender integration/mainstreaming plans;
  • Provide technical advice and related support to IDLO program development and implementation teams in integrating gender in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; Contribute to design of innovative initiatives on gender and justice;
  • Support the development of the gender thematic programs, particularly on three priority areas : (i) women justice professionals; (ii) gender-based violence against women and girls (GBV); and (iii) elimination of discriminatory Laws.
  • Support IDLO’s policy work on justice for women at the national, regional and global levels, including in key events related to SDG16+, Beijing +25 and UN Security Council resolution 1325.
  • Contribute to the development and dissemination of IDLO’s policy briefs, in particular on lessons, good practices and approaches on justice-related programming on GBV;
  • Strengthen IDLO’s community of practice on gender, including maintaining IDLO’s weekly gender news feed, organizing gender briefings and targeted webinars;

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Work Experience

  • An advanced degree (Masters or Equivalent) in Law, Gender, Development, or International Relations from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the area of gender, law and/or development.
  • Proven experience on gender integration or mainstreaming in justice programming, across various regions.
  • Proven experience in providing technical advice to a variety of actors on specific areas of gender and law, in particular, gender-based violence, gender-responsive legal reforms, women’s participation in the justice sector, women’s access to justice, and others.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting gender strategy development, implementation and monitoring.   

Language

  • Excellent spoken and written English is required. Additional language/s would be highly desirable.

  • Excellent communication and team coordination skills;
  • Ability to work constructively with several internal and external stakeholders in multicultural settings;
  • Self-motivated, hands-on and solution oriented professional, able to function effectively in a rapidly changing and dynamic work environment;
  • Articulate and who can relate to people at all levels and possesses excellent communication skills;
  • Ability and willingness to travel to IDLO projects including post-conflict countries;
  • Keen sense of ethics, integrity and commitment to IDLO's mandate.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

For this internationally recruited position, IDLO shall offer the selected candidate an Affiliate contract until 30 June 2021, with the possibility of extension subject to performance and availability of funding

IDLO shall offer a yearly basic salary of EUR 36,000 and a benefits package including provident fund contribution, health insurance, a leave entitlement package. Relocation and installation support available for internationally recruited employees, in accordance with IDLO Employee Regulations and Rules.
