IRC Arizona is now part of a new program to expand legal services to asylum seekers, victims of trafficking, noncitizens in removal proceedings, and other individuals in desperate need of legal representation.

SCOPE OF WORK: Under the supervision of a licensed attorney, the Legal Intern will be part of the Arizona IRC Immigration Team, providing quality legal services to asylum seekers, victims of trafficking, noncitizens in removal proceedings, and other individuals in desperate need of legal representation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Conduct intake interviews.

·Assist with applications for legal relief.

·Draft legal filings.

·Perform legal research on specific immigration law questions as they relate to IRC clients’ needs,

·Assist with coordinating National Americans Campaign (NAC) citizenship events.

·Assist with citizenship applications.

·Keep accurate records for data entry.

·Opportunity for direct client engagement through rapid response projects, depending on need.

·Other duties as assigned.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1.The intern will gain professional experience providing legal representation to noncitizens in non-detained removal proceedings.

2.The intern will deepen their understating of immigration law and policy, particularly as it pertains to asylum seekers, the naturalization process, and immigration court systems.

3.The intern will gain practical experience working in a fast-paced environment for a large NGO in a challenging policy environment for refugees and immigrants.
