IRC Background: Founded in 1933 at the behest of Albert Einstein, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading non-sectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection, and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. The San Jose IRC office serves approximately 160 refugees annually providing them a fresh start and opportunities to use their greatest resources-their motivation, their skills and their experiences-to become independent and self-sufficient new Americans. Additionally the IRC in Nor Cal services over 1500 newly arriving refugees per year and has four offices all offering immigration services to the refugee and immigration communities in which they are located (San Jose, Oakland, Turlock/ Modesto, and Sacramento). 
Job Summary: The Immigration Intake and Outreach Specialist, Northern California provides assistance to refugees, asylees and other immigrants to ensure they have access to IRC’s immigration services in Northern California. The Immigration Intake and Outreach Specialist conducts in-person and phone screening of potential clients and manages the flow of clients who need assistance with immigration services. The specialist collaborates with the Community Outreach Coordinator to develop partnerships in Northern California to identify and refer clients as appropriate. The Immigration Intake and Outreach Specialist is required to exercise independent judgment and initiative. This position will be based in San Jose but includes phone intake duties for the immigration regional offices (San Jose, Oakland, Sacramento, and Turlock).
Major Responsibilities:
•Conduct phone screenings to determine general eligibility for Immigration programming for the regional offices
•Respond to appointment requests and coordinate with Immigration staff to facilitate referrals and schedule appointments for the appropriate office
•Provide Know Your Rights workshops to clients participating in the IRC immigration programs
•Work with Community Outreach Coordinator to develop relationships with other non-profit agencies and CBOs to organize joint outreach activities, specifically Know Your Rights Naturalization information sessions
•Answer majority of phone-based client inquiries and serve as the first point of contact for immigration inquiries
•Oversee a team regional volunteers and interns, who assist with completing intakes for appointments and workshops for Immigration team
•Train volunteers and interns in completing the intakes and making appointments for the Immigration team
•Maintain accurate tracking record of all intake and outreach activities, partner organizations, contacts, etc. and submit monthly reports to Community Outreach Coordinator 
•Provide case status updates and processing questions where appropriate
•Assist with reminders for USCIS appointments through phone / text messaging, as needed
•Follow up with clients regarding outcomes of immigration cases
•Refer immigration clients to other IRC programs in the region, as needed
•Other duties, as assigned. 
Key Working Relationships:
Position Reports to: Community Outreach Coordinator, Nor Cal
Indirect Report to:  Immigration Program Manager, NorCal
Job Requirements:
•Undergraduate degree preferred, with minimum of 1-2 years relevant work experience in immigration or human services field, relevant work experience may be substituted
•Excellent verbal and written skills in English and demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment and with limited-English speakers
•Fluency in Spanish is required; knowledge of additional languages is an advantage
•Proven ability to contribute both independently and as a team member, to take initiative and follow instructions
•Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
•Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
•Front desk and/or customer service experience is preferred
•Ability to manage databases a plus
•Valid driver's license, clean driving record, own car, and auto insurance
Working Environment: Standard office work environment (currently remote). Some occasional travel through NorCal region may be required.
