Housing Assistant Intern

The housing intern will assist the Housing and Family Support Specialist to ensure newly arrived refugees have safe and affordable housing during their initial resettlement period. The housing intern will also work in cooperation with the Resettlement Manager and other direct service personnel to provide essential core services to refugee clients to promote self-sufficiency and a successful initial resettlement experience.

Essential Position Functions:

·Shadow the Housing and Family Support Specialistfor two-weeks at the start of the internship;

·Complete housing applications

·Complete voucher requests

·Assist the Housing and Family Support Specialist with household supplies and furniture procurement

·Assist the Housing and Family Support Specialist with coordinating lease signing meetings, including arranging interpretation for all lease signings

·Assist the Housing and Family Support Specialist with educating refugees in all matters related to apartment living and leases

·Work with the Housing and Family Support Specialist to prevent eviction and possible homelessness

·Demonstrate respect and sensitivity for cultural differences

·Other related duties as assigned
