Position Overview:
The Associate will work closely with CHAI’s Global Tuberculosis Program Team and the Hong Kong-based China Country Manager to provide analytical support for a newly established partnership with the Chinese government. The collaboration will work to support China as it expands and accelerates access to the critical health commodities required for high-quality care and treatment of multi drug-resistance TB and pediatric TB.

 

S/he will be engaged in various activities related to gathering data, interviewing stakeholders and providing analytical support for the CHAI teams and their government counterparts to identify root causes and develop appropriate evidence-based interventions for informed policy changes. The Associate may work independently and/or with mixed teams consisting of project and local site staff.

 

It is anticipated that a significant portion of the associate’s work will involve assessing the quality and consistency of public health and clinical processes within the context of existing public health structures. As such, familiarity with total quality management concepts, tools, frameworks and methodologies would be extremely helpful. Experience with process redesign/reengineering would also be valued. Given the scope and purpose of collaboration, the project team will use the insights generated to support evidence-based decision-making that may impact government policy, public health system structure and/or conduct, health financing, and purchasing and supply management strategies.

 

S/he will be able to work in a flexible, entrepreneurial and results-driven manner under pressure, but still with optimism even in the face of complex challenges.


The Associate will report to the China Country Manager and the Global Tuberculosis Program team to implement TB projects in China.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Global Tuberculosis program and China Country Manager to develop and implement the project activities as required by the partnership framework, work plan and budget;
  • Assist government partner teams to develop methodologies including tools, processes, key performance/success indicators that are highly relevant and appropriate for data collection, project management and goal fulfillment;
  • Provide clear guidance and training (if required) to relevant team members and partners in order to effectively manage the project process and deliverables;
  • Lead and/or support data collection, interviews and analysis to generate evidence-based policy adoption and formulation recommendations in strategic scenarios;
  • Work closely with the government partner teams to ensure the project timeline, work orders and deliverables organized and coordinated to achieve the set project goal and objectives;
  • Monitor the project implementation closely to ensure challenges identified and solved in a timely manner;
  • Provide regularly project implementation progress, and coordinate project team members for focus discussions to ensure project goal alignment;
  • Provide strategic recommendations for project management, communication and process improvement;
  • Communicate regularly with CHAI staff at the global and country levels to ensure CHAI’s value-add maximized to partners;
  • Other responsibilities, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, business, economics or a Bachelor of Science Degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience in management consulting, investment banking, and/or similar functions in the private sector
  • Fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese (speaking, reading, and writing in a professional setting)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical background
  • Experience with total quality management tools, frameworks, and/or methodologies is a plus
  • Comfortable with financial analysis and business case development
  • Experience working with large, complicated data sets, and/or data mining
  • Respectful of and ability to thrive within local cultures and styles
  • Ability to work independently without extensive structural or operational support
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, either independently or with teams
  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations and work in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
  • Ability to achieve maximum efficiency and impact with limited human and financial resources
  • Experience working and living in China
