SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: IRC’s MAKE (Merging Agriculture, Kitchens, and Employment) Projects uses food-based programs – urban farming, commercial food production, a café, special events, weekly CSA newsletter and monthly food and culture journal – as an educational platform for refugees, immigrant and low-income individuals to move to self-sufficiency in San Diego. The Marketing & Events Intern (ME Intern) will support the Marketing and Events Coordinator on activities related to the marketing of MAKE Projects as well as event activities at Pop on 30th. Pop on 30th is a beautiful cultural arts and events space between IRC’s urban farm and commercial kitchen in North Park. Pop on 30th will hold several cultural arts concerts and performance throughout the year (socially-distancing and face mask required) as well as a weekly IRC-operated pop-up café on Saturdays. Additional Pop on 30th activities include partnerships with local restaurants and businesses to utilize the space at other times of the week to generate program revenue to support IRC’s job training programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Photography and social media posts

·Graphic design for flyers, signage as well as on-site beautification

·Support job training participants in MAKE Publishing along with sales promotion

·Artist/musician outreach and community partnerships

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. To understand hands-on, community-based social enterprise programming

2. To understand non-profit operations and sustainability, e.g. grant outcomes, monitoring/evaluation and fundraising

3. To understand the employment and educational needs of refugees, immigrants and low-income individuals in San Diego County
