Job Overview / Summary:
The Senior Drupal Developer works on all aspects of technical development, architecture, documentation and maintenance for the IRC’s external-facing global digital communications’ web properties. Working closely with cross-functional internal staff (External Relations, Operations, IT) and external consultants, he/she plans, designs and implements creative technical solutions that effectively address technical challenges and opportunities present in introducing and maintaining a global communications web platform (or platforms). 
Major Responsibilities:
1.Builds flexible web platforms to meet the needs of operating a global communications and marketing business on the web. This includes ensuring modern engineering best practices are adhered to. 
2.Serves as a primary developer in implementing and maintaining existing Drupal systems and architecting new ones. 
3.Works shoulder-to-shoulder with the in-house design/UX team to help realize the IRC brand online.
4.Helps manage technical work with other resources within the team and organization, as well as any external development partners or vendors.
5.Works with Website Product Manager and other Technical leads (IT, External Relations, external vendors) to set technical management best practices and produce documentation for our technical platforms.
6.Drives our marketing, fundraising and communications strategy forward by bringing innovative new technical approaches to the table.
Key Working Relationships: 
Position Reports to:  Director, Dev-Ops – Information Technology
Position directly supervises:  
Indirect Resources: Oversees and in some cases directly supervises the work of other internal or external developers.
Other Internal and/or external contacts: 
Internal:  Works with IRC External Relations, Marketing and Operations managers and staff on digital marketing projects. Works closely with IT managers on application troubleshooting and performance-related issues.
Coordinates digital projects with manager-level stakeholders from USP, as needed.
External: Works with external web development partners and digital services agencies on a case-by-case basis 
Impact of work: Supports the IRC’s ability to deliver high-quality external relations web output in support of its work and mission.
Job Qualifications: 
Education: 
Minimum:  Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer/Information Science or equivalent work experience
Preferred: Master’s Degree or higher in Software Engineering, plus any degree-level qualification in course related to the IRC’s core mission (i.e. public policy, internationals relations etc)
Work Experience: 
Minimum: 
-    5+ years of web development experience
-3+ years Drupal experience
-Experience developing with both Drupal 7 and Drupal 8
Preferred:
-     Experience implementing, integrating and contributing to Open Source Software projects
-Familiarity with large Drupal instances
-Experience with multilingual and global websites for large international or federated organizations
-E-Commerce and/or fundraising experience
-Experience working with Pantheon and familiarity with build tools like CircleCI.
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
Minimum:  
-3+ years professional Drupal experience
-Experience with a relational database system, ideally MySQL
-Client-side scripting with Javascript/JQuery
-Expertise in cross-browser compatibility issues
-Mobile development: responsive layouts & CSS media queries
Preferred:
-Pattern-based, mobile-first design experience
-Demonstrable experience of architecture moderately complex global systems.
-Hands-on experience with the Drupal API, including module development and custom theming
-Experience working with Web Services and APIs
-Experience with Salesforce a plus
-Has used version control to collaborate with other developers on large projects using Git or Subversion
Licenses or Certifications:  None required, Acquia Drupal 7 and 8 certification preferred.
