Project Manager /Cost Accountant

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 35 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Director of Administration and the Chief Finance and Budget or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer UNV Project Manager /Cost Accountant will:

  • Develop and document a standard service costing methodology used to cost (unit and composite costs) and explain the total cost of service provision to internal clients;
  • Build costing spreadsheet/database that can be linked to service catalogue;
  • Actively communicate with service providers and management. Help establish understanding momentum for a maintained, central service catalogue;
  • Work with focal points to ensure catalogue service details are provided and verified;
  • Provide guidance to DoA focal points on providing service costing details and on starting service and activity costing as part of their Annual Business Plans;
  • Support the Director in interagency advisory groups focusing on administration and operational support, such as Business Operation Strategy (BOS), common premises, and Common Back Offices (CBOs);
  • In relation to the UNDS reform, contribute actively in developing, documenting and executing detailed project work plans and schedule;
  • Assists with developing project status reports to communicate project performance to senior management;
  • Anticipates and evaluates potential risk areas throughout the duration of the project and proposes/pursues mitigation, avoidance, and corrective action plans to management as necessary, escalates issues to Unit Head’s/Director’s attention for guidance and assistance in reaching a resolution;
  • Assists in scheduling planning, status, design review, and issue management meetings for key unit projects;
  • Manage project updates and related documentation, and
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, and/or Finance
Required experience: 180 Months Experience remark:
  • At least 15 years of professional mixed work experience in: conducting service costing exercises; cost accounting, budget planning, operational support, and project management;
  • PRINCE2 foundation and practitioner certification (or equivalent) is required;
  • Advanced skills in working in Excel and MS project is required;
  • Excellent English oral and written skills is a must;
  • Experience in service management is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of IFRS/IPSAS an advantage;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • French(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
