Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the regional Communications and Advocacy Specialist, the National UN Volunteer will:

  • Support the implementation and monitoring of the Regional Communications and Advocacy Strategy
  • Conceptualize, research, edit and produce human centric multimedia stories and other digital communication products that are clear, concise, vivid, and convey key messages to target audiences
  • Produce multimedia content, including infographics, videos, photos etc. to support ECA RO advocacy and visibility in the region
  • Develop and promote strategic digital content across different platforms; identifying priorities and key moments and events
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of social media plans and campaigns for major communication projects and events
  • Participate in the development and design the quarterly newsletter
  • Assist in the maintenance of ECA RO communications contacts databases, including media lists
  • Support with the daily update of ECA RO social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy by creating catchy and attractive social media and multi-media content
  • Liaise with field offices to compile success stories, results etc. to be published on social media platforms
  • Assist in uploading information to knowledge management system on a regular basis, including news, updates, resources.
  • Support the development of communications tools such as brochures, infographics, fact-sheets, multi-media assets etc.
  • Participate in the conceptualization and implementation of regional/global campaigns and special events, such as the Generation Equality campaign, 16 Days of Activism etc.
  • Support in youth, influencer, activist engagement into UN Women’s campaigns and communications initiatives

In addition, the UN Volunteer may be responsible for the following financial and administrative tasks:

  • Support events’ organization: service providers’ selections (communication agency, hotels, printer, etc.) and elaboration of terms of references, drafting selection minutes, contracts, etc.
  • Assist in following the reception of deliverables and the services’ providers’ payment;
  • Participate in the shaping of reports and documents;
  • Assist in translations and synthesis.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, PR, International Relations, or relevant field
Required experience: 24 Months Experience remark:
  • 2 years of demonstrated experience in communications, outreach or public relations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing multi-media content for social media and digital platforms
  • Demonstrated interest in or experience with using graphic design and video editing software would be an asset
  • Motivated to contribute towards gender equality and women’s empowerment
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team;
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
  • Computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media, and others).
Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
