Overall purpose of the role

The Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS) is a coalition of 14 NGOs working in the search of durable solutions in East Africa. ReDSS Regional Secretariat is based in Nairobi with country units in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya. It is a coordination and information hub that focuses on research and knowledge management, programme support, capacity development, policy dialogue, and internal/external coordination. The ReDSS Programme coordinator will lead various aspects of the durable solutions agenda in Somalia: training and capacity development; research and knowledge management; and grants management and reporting. 

Responsibilities

Capacity development and support for external engagement processes

  • Support ReDSS Somalia members and partners to monitor in-country durable solutions processes 
  • Support processes to document real time learning, emerging best practices from durable solutions programmes to inform programme adaptation
  • Support ReDSS Somalia members to invest in community engagement processes and improve collective accountability to displacement-affected communities
  • Take lead in organizing technical trainings, learning programme workshops and events, to strengthen the capacity of various stakeholders in the field of durable solutions
  • Support the engagement of ReDSS Somalia with various government authorities, humanitarian and development partners on joint durable solutions programming

Research support, learning and knowledge sharing

  • Facilitate and coordinate knowledge sharing processes including the documentation of lessons learned and updating learning templates
  • Support research initiatives; including monitoring of research processes, research dissemination and uptake plans
  • Facilitate and manage preparations for trainings, learning events and workshops to promote cross-learning, including the management of events calendar and SOPs
  • Carry out dissemination of ReDSS learning tools, evidence and research results as appropriate 
  • Coordinate external communications with ReDSS Somalia members including the production and dissemination of bi-monthly online newsletters 

Reporting and grants management

  • Operationalize and monitor ReDSS Somalia learning framework and keep track of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) requirements to ensure indicators are on target and well documented 
  • Compile ReDSS Somalia monthly, quarterly and annual reports and related products 
  • Develop and maintain overview of all grants, donor requirements, rules and regulations, and internal and external deadlines 
  • Support the development and revision of funding proposals, budgets and donor reports
  • Ensure that grant coordination systems and processes are successfully implemented across the life of the grant

Reporting    
This position reports to the ReDSS Somalia Durable Solutions Manager

Experience and technical competencies 

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • 5-7 years of experience in similar positions involving durable solutions programming, grants management, report writing, knowledge management; requiring analysis and presentation of complex information in a simple and accessible manner;
  • Strong reporting and writing skills with proven experience in producing high quality report and learning materials
  • Solid experience in durable solutions programming, capacity development of a wide range of actors including adult learning, mentoring and coaching, training of trainers and impact monitoring of capacity development activities
  • Solid experience working in Somalia or with Somali authorities on durable solutions programming and policy dialogue processes will be an added advantage
  • Excellent coordination, inter-personal and facilitation and communication skills to build trusted relationships with a wide array of humanitarian and development partners, donors, Government agencies, etc.
  • Excellent IT command, close familiarity with the maintenance and management of template-style websites, social media platforms and experience of applying ICT (information communications technology) to knowledge management
  • Flexibility, proactive engagement, ability to work under pressure and demonstrate high tolerance for change, complexity and unpredictability

Languages

  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Fluency in spoken and written Somali would be an advantage

Conditions
Contract:    One-year contract with possibility of extension, subject to funding and performance. Salary and conditions in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff in Kenya.
