Survey and Monitoring Specialist

Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Monitoring Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Survey and Monitoring Specialist will:

  • Coordinate with other departments especially with programs team to ensure all potential data collection needs are addressed;
  • Determine the appropriate data collection tool based on the purpose, advantages and disadvantages of mobile data collection techniques;
  • Monitor the progress and performance of activities implemented by UNICEF partners;
  • Support COVID-19 related studies and evaluations conducted by staff members and consultants;
  • Support the application of quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis tools, techniques and approaches in the area of COVID-19;
  • Virtual data collection ex. Phone calls to beneficiaries;
  • Provide documentation and dissemination of key findings stemming from monitoring, assessment, and other learning activities;
  • Translation of data to the required language of the reports;
  • Conduct data audits and analysis to ensure high quality data, compile a report with relevant indicator data per grant, showing targets versus actuals and an action plan;
  • Analyze data to ensure MEL results and recommendations are understood and acted upon;
  • Provide technical support for UNICEF monitoring, evaluation and learning activities, primarily to field-based programs, especially related to project implementation and closeout;
  • Conduct trainings to enumerators on mobile data collection mechanism and software;
  • Support and design of specific data collection tools (such as surveys, questionnaires) through XLS, ARCgis and kobo;
  • Collect qualitative data from families and beneficiaries of UNICEF programs;
  • Visualize the data analyzed, present the research findings and include recommendations;
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. University degree in social science, economics, public administration or related field.

Required experience: Experience remark:
  • Specific coursework or uo to 2 years of experience in the area of results based management (RBM), monitoring and evaluation, statistics and/or research methodologies;
  • Relevant computer skills; specifically Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media. Familiarity with statistical software (i.e. SPSS, Stata) and data visualization would be a strong asset; Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others;
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills;
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team; Flexible and open to learning and new experiences;
  • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions;
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;
