Background

UNDP works in more than 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty and the reduction of inequalities, poverty and exclusion while protecting the planet. UNDP helps countries develop strong policies, skills, partnerships and institutions so they can sustain a multidimensional level of progress that extends beyond economic gains. UNDP has worked in India since 1951 in almost all areas of human development, from systems and institutional strengthening to inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods, as well as sustainable energy, environment and resilience. 

UNDP India is working to its best ability to support various Ministries, donors, partners, projects and state teams across the country on communication, engagement and media initiatives. In order to ensure effective and timely communication and engagements with a wide range of stakeholders and audiences, UNDP India will need to create a series of collateral packages. In addition to this, UNDP India needs to focus on enhancing its brand visibility through its various communication initiatives. Keeping these critical requirements in mind, the UNDP Communications unit plans to an intern to strengthen India CO communications. 

The intern will be responsible for developing high quality designs and campaign materials and will be responsible for adapting, editing, et al, of communication products for dissemination to support the Core Communications unit as well as the project and state teams. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Communications, the intern will work closely with and will be guided by the Content and Branding Associate and is expected to: :

  1. Create engaging digital/print content, including graphics, brochure, publications, Gifs, posts, stories, for key campaigns and advocacy priorities;
  2. Create social media designs according to platforms and experiment with thumb stoppers;
  3. Provide support to the state/project team with designing collaterals and campaign materials;
  4. Prepare PowerPoint presentations, visual representations, infographics, as and when required;
  5. Work closely with the Communications team to ideate and design communication packages.
  6. Any other task, as advised by the supervisor.

Required Skills and Experience

Education: : 

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in design, mass communications or related fields.
  2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
  3. Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
  4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.  

Skills

  1. Ability to generate design collaterals with quick turnaround time;
  2. Excellent knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Premier, Final Cut and/or other tools used for graphic design;
  3. Good skills in video editing, basic knowledge of motion graphic design is a plus;
  4. Basic understanding of current affairs and interest in development challenges · Experience in writing blogs, features, articles would be an asset;
  5. Good team player and ability to adapt to change in work environment.

Language Requirements: 

Fluency in English, while understanding of Hindi is desirable

Candidates who are selected must submit the following documents, upon selection: :

  • Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in their undergraduate or graduate-level degree programme;
  • Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out. Selected intern must have medical and life insurance.
  • Kindly note, UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.

Working arrangements:

  • Interns may be given a stipend according to UNDP Internship Policy, if it is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government foundation or scholarship programme. A stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of the internship. UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship. Interns must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan.

  • Interns are expected to work full time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes. 
  • The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
  • Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship. 
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity. 
  • The purpose of the internship is not to lead to further employment with UNDP, but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship.  The intern will be evaluated at the end of the internship.
  • IMPORTANT: Family relationships are required to be disclosed in order to avoid real or perceived family influence or conflict of interest, within UNDP. If the candidate/ hiring manager has not disclosed that he/she was related to an individual employed by UNDP in whatever contractual modality and irrespective of the nature of the family relationship, this may constitute a basis for withdrawing the offer of internship or, if the internship has started, to terminate it without notice or indemnity.
