ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Logistics Assistant (Quality Assurance) will work in the Food Safety & Quality unit in Supply Chain and in collaboration with the other units of WFP. This post is based in Syria CO in Damascus and follow under the direct supervision of the Food Technology Officer in CO.

JOB PURPOSE

To support the implementation of food safety and quality assurance and/or food product optimisation initiatives within a CO. Job holder is responsible for partnering with the key supply chain functions units to ensure an integrated supply chain approach to meet the food assistance needs of beneficiaries.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Within delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant (Quality Assurance) will be responsible for the following duties: (These duties are generic and thus are not allinclusive nor are all duties carried out by all job holder):

1. Support implementation of an integrated Food Safety and Quality Management System for Syria Operations

2. Conduct regular inspection visits to WFP warehouses countrywide and provide technical support and guidance to warehouse staff on best practices in relation to handling, storage, pest control, fumigation, reconditioning, packaging, and disposal

3. Support the implementation of the food incident management system and Assist in the preparation of reports related to food quality and safety issues

4. Provide necessary FSQ Support and monitoring in CBT programmes within the country office

5. Support the nutrition inititiaves in the country office and provide timely FSQ recommendation, and follow up.

6. Establish Quality Assurance standard operating procedures, protocols and tools that maintain, monitor and verify food safety and quality along the WFP supply chain.

7. Support the capacity building of WFP staff and partners for efficient and effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries (e.g. through the design and review of training materials).

8. Perform any other duties incidental to the above, as required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of secondary school education in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Food Science or Food Processing, Nutrition or other related field. A post-secondary certificate in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Food Science or Food Processing, Nutrition or other related field is desirable

Experience: Minimum 4 years of relevant working experience.

Language: Fluency (level C) in oral and written communication in Arabic and in English.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

Experience in food quality assurance and management or food quality and safety audit.

 Experience using corporate systems to monitor ongoing shipments, pipeline information, insurance claims, and food stock.

 Experience analysing data (on commodities, funds, etc.) and drafting reports.

 Experience in measuring service providers’ performance against set KPIs.

 Experience in assisting the preparation of contract documentation.

 Experience in providing technical business support in corporate systems.
