OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme (The Programme) is to build the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populationsDESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Within the framework of the delegated authority, the incumbent is assigned all or part of the following duties:Support countries in ensuring the quality and usefulness of rapid assessments of the health and general condition of affected populations during emergencies;Designs and conducts epidemiologic analyses and assesses risks from surveillance data, prepares epidemiological reports using health data from multiple sources. Lead the risk analysis and risk assessment, collection, and interpretation of all data and information pertaining to emergency preparedness and response.Collaborate with all relevant partners and national authorities for in-depth risk and situation analysis for emergency preparedness and response, and for monitoring and evaluation of emergency preparedness and response interventionsGuide the information management officer and the data manager or other relevant staff for timely production and dissemination of information product including dashboards, bulletins, sitreps, executive briefing note etc…Support countries in reviewing the disease surveillance/EWARN system and provide appropriate recommendations on how to improve them, including assistance to WCO and MOH surveillance officers for active case search as the need arisesEnsure a data repository at the regional level for regional analysis, and provide support to countries to compile information from a broad range of health sectors (epidemiology, health structures, staffing, health service provision and needs, adapting and using WHO tools Support and advise countries when required in investigation of disease outbreaks and make appropriate recommendations for response to country offices, national health authorities, and partnersSupport and advise countries in the effective coordination of surveillance and assessment activities with Regional Offices and HQ as well as local, regional and national health entities and other international health partners including UN agencies and NGOs, including production of a regional health information product (bulletins);REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: - Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public health and/or other related field from a recognized university.Desirable: - Training or experience in public health emergency and partners' coordination
Experience
Essential: - A minimum of seven years of relevant experience at national and international levels in public health emergency managementDesirable: - Work experience with WHO or other UN agencies in emergency management would be an asset
Skills
- At least 7 years of relevant professional experience in emergency preparedness and response;- Sound technical expertise and experience in risk assessment in the health sector- Knowledge of WHO risk assessment tools will be an assetWHO Competencies

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 73,516 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 2659 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
