The Regional Human Resources Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Region Office (EAPRO) is seeking an individual consultant to review the design and support the further revision of the EAPR Mentorship Programme. It will include training development and regular virtual sessions with mentors throughout the program, as well as development of mentoring topic support materials, advertising of the program, and matching of the mentors and mentees.

How can you make a difference?

The Regional Human Resources Section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Region Office (EAPRO) is seeking an individual consultant to review the design and support the further revision of the EAPR Mentorship Programme. It will include training development and regular virtual sessions with mentors throughout the program, as well as development of mentoring topic support materials, advertising of the program, and matching of the mentors and mentees.

 

Definition of mentorship in UNICEF: an initiative in which experienced staff share informal career-related advice and information with colleagues.

 

Work Assignment:

The selected consultant will develop a 10 months-long mentorship program starting mid-February 2021 the timing of which allows mentors and mentees to add this activity to their Annual Personal Development Plan and will run through mid-December 2021 to coincide with end of the year Performance Review period for staff members.  This mentorship program will be based on the outcomes from the 2020 mentorship program conducted in EAPRO. Previous materials will be provided as a base.  The program developed will be delivered over the course of the year by UNICEF staff.  The mentor pre-program training will be delivered virtually by the consultant jointly with UNICEF staff.

 

The work assignment will include:

  • Design and development of Mentor Training to be accessed through our Agora learning management system, and also delivered online jointly by consultant and UNICEF staff.
  • Development of mentorship materials appropriate for delivery via monthly webinars throughout the program on career development topics of interest to mentors and mentees.
  • Development of marketing materials to draw attention to the programme.
  • The advertisement and management of applicants to the program.
  • Development of criteria to be a mentor and a mentee.
  • Development of criteria for matching mentors and mentees.
  • Vetting of candidates.
  • Matching of mentors and mentees and making an initial recommendation of mentor/mentee pairs.
  • Development of a formative evaluation for mid-way through the program and a summative evaluation for use at the end of the program covering similar topics to the pilot (for ease of comparison) as well as new topics introduced as a result of this consultancy.

 

End Product:

• The first end product will be a package delivered via flash-drive, or FTP that includes all materials to be used in the support of the mentorship program delivered in a commonly editable format (i.e. PowerPoint , google docs, and Word) (15 days)
o 2 Mentor Training sessions:
1) The first to be co-delivered just before the first mentor/mentee session by consultant and UNICEF staff on developing rapport and communication
2) The second to be delivered by UNICEF staff at the end of the program on how to close off the relationship in a healthy way (the content should complement the final webinar content to be delivered to both mentees and mentors)
o Monthly webinars for mentors and mentees (visual PPT with speaker’s script)
o Monthly emails
o Formative and summative evaluations (pilot program evaluations exist to be built upon)
o Marketing materials (call for participation as mentors and mentees)
o Planning form for mentors and mentees
o Overall schedule and system for monitoring progress
o Criteria for being a mentor and a mentee
o Online application forms established and tested

 

• The second end product is the establishment of the cohort of mentors and mentees (25 days)
o Application period opened with marketing materials and online information and application forms
o Applicants vetted and matched based on pre-determined criteria
o Appropriate communications sent to all applicants on the outcome of their application, and to all mentors and mentees on their matches, and invitations to pre-mentorship programme training sessions for all mentors
o Delivery of the virtual mentor training sessions

 

Estimated Duration of Contract:  40 working days within 10 months (15 February – 14 December 2021)

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

1) Degree in related field such as sociology or education;

2) At least 5 years’ prior experience in instructional design including work samples that demonstrate both online and virtual development experience;

3) At least 5 years’ verifiable prior experience in mentorship program design, preferably with the UN;

4) Demonstration of excellent skills in project management, mentorship programme management and English written communication;

5) Previous experience delivering a mentor program, preferably with the UN.

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
