Job Description

We are working on SCOAP3, a global partnership of 3,000 libraries, funding agencies and research institutions from 46 countries and Intergovernmental Organizations.

You will contribute to the development and operation of the SCOAP3 service, a live system with thousands of users every year, service high throughput REST APIs and state-of-the-art UX. This will consist of working closely with the Technology team to design, develop, and deploy new features that enable and make robust tools for our partners. You will be also improving the platform’s infrastructure resilience, monitoring, and CI/CD workflows. Qualifications

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State;
• You have graduated, or are about to graduate, with a university degree (BSc or MSc level in computer science,engineering or another relevant course) and have no more than 4 years’ relevant experience after obtaining your degree;
• Kindly note that experience prior to the latest obtained degree will not be taken into account for the calculation of your overall years of experience.

Essential skills and experience:

• Professional experience with back-end programming language (e.g., Python, Java, or C++);
• Demonstrated professional experience with front-end development and the following technologies: Javascript, React and Typescript;
• Solid knowledge in XHTML, CSS, and web technologies;
• Experience with developing and designing RESTful services and APIs;
• You value learning and sharing knowledge with colleagues, following best open-source collaborative practices and egoless programming;
• Passionate about software development and building and evolving robust, secure, well-tested software components and too;
• You enjoy working in an agile software development team building practical solutions in close collaboration with users and international partners.

Desired technical skills:

• Experience with CI/CD;
• Container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift);
• Relational and document-based databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, ElasticSearch).

Please note that CERN Staff members are not eligible to apply for a Fellowship.

In return, CERN will provide you with:

• An employment contract for between six months (minimum) up to a maximum of 36 months.
• A stipend ranging from 5,281 to 6,558 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
• Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund.
• Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva.
• 2.5 days of paid leave per month.
