OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Office for Iraq and the direct supervision of the Security Officer, the SC holder with vocational experience in security provides support on matters of safety and security with the ultimate goal of keeping UNESCO   personnel and offices in Iraq safe and secure. 

The main responsibilities should be summarized in :

-With significant guidance from the UNESCO FSO, actively maintain official liaison with host government counterparts, local authorities responsible for security, law and order and security counterparts in the UN.
-Assist on maintaining the Security Plan, including updating staff lists;
-Support with the checking and following up on the implementation of the Security Risk Management measures at the duty station;
-Monitor the local security situation through local media and networks providing regular information and updates to the UNESCO FSO relative to on-going and emerging security issues in the country;

Long Description

- Assist on identifying Emergency Communications equipment needs (MISTS);

-Conducting security evaluations and providing advice on security measures for the residences of UNESCO staff and UNESCO offices;

-Assist on organising training courses on security issues/awareness and preparedness;

-Supports actions during the implementation of the Security Plan, as required

-Maintain routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.

-Following up on access control of UNESCO offices, in the area of operation (kR, Mosul).

-Supporting flied missions in Iraq (Mosul/ KR).

Long Description

-Maintains a database of all security incidents and completes REPORTS AS REQUIRED;
-Assist in conducting security & safety related investigations;
-Assist on Responding to emergencies/crises that may involve UNESCO operations, staff and assets;
-Keep records of the issuance and return of UNESCO ID cards;
-Support the UNESCO FSO in the establishment of effective and functioning Communications/Warden Systems for UNESCO and the periodic testing of these systems.
 

Long Description

-Conduct physical security surveys of international personnel residences in accordance with the Residential Security Measures (RSM) on behalf of the SFP as required.
-Under the direct guidance of the supervisor, share information with UNESCO personnel and eligible family members that would affect their safety and security and information regarding the actions to take in the event of an emergency, including those identified in the UNESCO/UN Security Plans.
-Other security tasks assigned by the FSO.

1.    Academic qualifications
•    Completed secondary, technical or vocational education in relevant field;

 

2.    Years of relevant work experience
•    Minimum 5 years of relevant experience  

 

3.    Competencies

•    Bachelor’s Degree with 2 additional years of relevant experience can be considered in lieu;

•    Military, Police or National Intelligence background and experience is an asset.
