Background

UNDP has worked in India since 1951 in almost all areas of human development, from systems and institutional strengthening to inclusive growth and sustainable livelihoods, as well as sustainable energy, environment and resilience. UNDP’s programmes are designed to integrate a global vision for catalytic change with India’s national priorities. Today, UNDP India works to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by transforming traditional models to do development differently
 
In one of its initiative UNDP India in partnership with CSR Trust for SDG in India (CTSI) aims to develop a sustainable Plastic waste management solution to minimize the impact and risks to environment and to human health in India. The socio-technical model (segregation/collection/ recycling) will be institutionalized within the respective governance mechanism while ensuring compliance with regulations, to improve use of resources and in line with Swacch Bharat Mission in India. 
 
The projects major objective is to create a better value in the waste value chain through investment in approaches, systematic process, aligning stakeholders and introducing innovation. To further the objectives of the project is majorly define in following categories
 
a.Implementation of various model catering to the requirement of integrated waste management in rural and urban settlements
 
b.Capacity building of stakeholders of the domain such as people, government, waste workers, waste management agencies, NGOs and grassroot organizations.
 
c. Implement a well optimized reverse logistic model through Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) installed in controlled & uncontrolled urban environment.
 
d.Introduce well tested innovations in the sector of dry waste management
 
e.Provide required technical advisory support to the ULB on integrated waste management
The project is structured into 4 components. 
 
a)Component 1: Base Line Assessment- A base line assessment on the generation of plastic waste in the project area, present scenario, present regulatory mechanisms and practices followed, and implement. 
 
b)Component 2: Development of Swacchta Kendra- Designing of decentralized small collection points leading to establishment of the material recovery centre as Swacchta Kendra (SK) for improved plastic waste management, under a community led integrated approach.
 
c)Component 3: Safaii Sathis Institutionalization- Ensure mainstreaming of the Safaii Sathis (SS) by empowering them through various social security schemes and recognizing their service to society and environment protection.
 
d)Component 4: Digital governance- Establish a more hands-on knowledge management, digital monitoring and communication mechanisms to establish traceability, accountability and digital governance. 
 

Duties and Responsibilities

•Liaison and Network with various stake holders, both government and nongovernment, during the execution of the projects in coordination with Service Provider (SP). Ensure proper systems are put in place to ensure collection of all dry waste 1-2 MTs in first 6 months per day and later augmented to collection of all plastics and dry waste to 4-5 MTs through the SP.
 
•Organize Capacity building, Resource mobilization and Knowledge management programs related to project activities in coordination with SP, particularly oversight the book-keeping; accounts and the business model approach.  Initiate the required trainings at the SP level and related stakeholders.
 
•Facilitate through SP, enterprise development by creating women self-help group to empower women. 
 
•Act as a focal point in the city for UNDP.  Ensure partnerships to happen with all types of bulk generators, a minimum of 10 institutions per month.
 
•Travel and coordination of activities in other parts of Gujarat based on the project need.
 
•Perform any other tasks assigned from time to time by the project senior management at UNDP and SP.

Good analytical, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills on the impacts from project.
Good command of Resources Based management tools.
 
Desirable: Strong understanding of waste management.
 
Skills:
 
•IT/computing skills (minimum: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
•Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive constructive attitude; 
•Demonstrates openness to change and ability to manage complexities;
•Ability to prioritize assignments and requirements, and multitask as needed;
•Ability to work independently with limited supervision
•Ability to integrate technology into various aspects of the project for planning, rollout and monitoring
 
Language Requirements:
 
•Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English and Hindi is essential. Regional language specific to the zone (Gujrati) is essential.

Remuneration package is INR 44,241/- per month (taxable). UNDP also offers additional benefits which include medical insurance coverage and limited pension reimbursement for contract holder and encourages work life balance to its employees.
