This position is part of a time-bound, inter-departmental and cross-functional project team – located in the Executive Office of the United Nations Secretary-General (EOSG) – that implements data-driven digital solutions to enhance decision-making, performance and efficiency across all business processes in the Office. 

Blending consulting, analytics and information management skills, the team collaborates with the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), to support all units in EOSG in leveraging innovative, data-driven and digital workflows in their day-to-day operations.

UNOPS is expected to provide data and analytics services, in collaboration with the EOSG. The incumbent of this position will be part of UNOPS personnel and under its full responsibility.

Functional Responsibilities

Under the overall supervision of the UNOPS Senior Programme Manager or designated individual, the incumbent will work with the Associate Programme Management Officer in the EOSG Strategic Planning and Monitoring Unit to:

  • Support business units in identifying needs, mapping business processes and co-designing digital solutions or analytics products;  

  • Support the development, programming, testing and implementation of new sites, forms, workflows, and document management processes, using primarily Microsoft 365 technologies (e.g. SharePoint Online, Teams, Power Automate, Power Apps, Forms, Power BI) and other content management systems;

  • Build, test and modify prototype solutions based on user specifications, including liaising with diverse business units to initiate requests and communicating requirements with IT colleagues;

  • Provide support for deployed solutions, including version management, data recovery and ongoing reviews with users to respond to their requests;

  • Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed applications and systems, as well as training materials and presentations;

  • Process administrative actions and resolve issues related to project implementation, e.g. organization of and participation in training, procurement of products and services, etc.;

  • Conduct research on new technologies, keep abreast of developments in the field, and assist in testing and evaluating new products and technologies, as requested;

  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

Monitoring and Progress Controls

The work of the ICT Associate (Digital Solutions Management) directly impacts delivery of services of EOSG and OICT, as well as the performance of services implemented in field missions and headquarters. EOSG and OICT will ensure that proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • A University degree in Management, Business, Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Public Administration, International Relations or related field is an asset or advantage and may replace some of the required number of years of experience.

Work Experience 

Required:

  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in management consulting, business process improvement or change management support in larger organizations, a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required with a first level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent);

  • A minimum one (2) years of experience in data management, analytics, digital workflow and solutions design, or similar area;

  • A minimum of one (1) year of practical experience in interfacing with stakeholders, leading meetings, communicating complex concepts in compelling presentations and promoting buy-in;

Desirable:

  • Ability to process high-level business problems and develop precise client-focused technological or analytical solutions;

  • Experience in agile development, quality assurance, information management or user interface design;

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft workflow and knowledge management technologies (e.g. SharePoint, Teams, Power Automate, Power Apps, Forms, Excel, etc.),

  • Demonstrated proficiency in self-service analytics applications (e.g. Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Tableau);

  • Experience with SQL, Python, Microsoft DAX, Microsoft mQuery/PowerQuery, web development techniques (HTML/CSS/JavaScript/.NET);

  • Passion for the United Nations, incl. global agendas on sustainable development, climate, peace, human rights.

Language:

  • Fluency in English (read, write, speak) is required for this post.

  • Knowledge of one or more official UN languages will be considered an asset.
