The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) is an international organisation tasked with promoting innovative, comprehensive and sustainable migration policies. With 18 Member States and active in more than 90 countries worldwide, ICMPD takes a regional approach in its work to create efficient cooperation and partnerships along migration routes. Project Overview:

ICMPD is inviting all interested candidates to apply for the Research and Communication Intern position for the European Union Global Diaspora Facility (EUDiF).

EUDiF is the first-ever global effort aiming to strengthen collaboration and engagement between diaspora development organisations, countries of origin and the European Union (EU). The Facility, which runs from June 2019 until December 2022, is funded by the EU and implemented by the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).

EUDiF consists of four interlinking components:

Research and knowledge management activities, including a global mapping of diaspora engagement and thematic case studies;

Targeted capacity development activities for countries of origin and diaspora organisations; Outreach,consultationsandmeetingswithdiasporaorganisationsinEurope,EUpartnercountries and EU Member States;

Mobilisation of diaspora experts for development projects.

Together, these activities will generate a consolidated knowledge base on diaspora engagement practices, address the capacity development needs and priorities of governments and diaspora organisations, strengthen and expand pre-existing networks, formalise diaspora-EU interaction and promote diaspora as development actors.

The intern provides support to the work of the EUDiF team based in ICMPD’s Brussels mission in Belgium, under the direct supervision of the Head of Programme Global Initiatives and Senior Project Manager that monitor, evaluate, guide and provide professional development. The Internship is conceived as a full-time entry-level short-term opportunity for people interested in preparing for a career in co-development and/or international project management. The EUDiF Internship Programme relies on a win-win approach.

On one hand, young students and professionals from the diaspora will gain direct and unique hands- on experience in the implementation of this innovative EU-funded project on diaspora engagement. On the other hand, the EUDiF team will benefit from the knowledge and personal experience of the interns to support project activities.

Ultimately, the Internship Programme also contributes to mainstream diaspora expertise into development projects and to invest into the education and professional development of highly-skilled youth diaspora members.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. Implementation of project activities:

Support the timely implementation of research and communication project activities, contributing to addressing the knowledge, dialogue and promotion gaps in the area of diaspora engagement.

Conduct desk research, collect and analyse background information to support the production of thematic case studies as well as other research and knowledge management outputs. Provide support to the organisation of events, workshops and other activities – in particular the 1 EU Global Diaspora Annual Forum - in terms of substance preparation as well as pre- /during/post event communication.

Compile materials and inputs for communications activities and support the production of communication products, such as the EUDiF newsletter, blogs, interviews, reports etc. Support the development and maintenance of the project website.

Support social media monitoring.

Support in the dissemination of project content through various channels. Translate, edit and proofread documents.

2. Project administration and compliance:

Implement administrative activities and processes in accordance with ICMPD rules and established business processes.

Support management of experts and procurement contracts.

Maintain project documentation electronically and on physical file.

The project team benefits from support for its various activities.

The intern understands ICMPD, its mandate and cooperation with governments of countries of origin and destination and other stakeholders – including peers from the diaspora worldwide - involved in diaspora engagement for development.

2 The intern learns about development project implementation techniques and skills in a leading internationalorganisation specialised in promoting innovative and sustainablemigration policies. The intern benefits from a structured mentorship opportunity.

The intern has a strengthened understanding of migration and development issues, EU institutions and the Brussels policy environment.

Incumbent Profile:

BeanemigrantordescendantofemigrantsfromaDEVCO partnercountrywho activelymaintains links with and is willing to contribute to the development with your country of heritage. Knowledge of/or strong interest in learning about diaspora engagement for development. Ability to work well in a group as well as independently/remotely.

Good analytical and drafting skills.

Good organisational skills.

Proficiency in English. Proficiency in French, Spanish, Russian or Arabic is an asset. Corporate Qualifications:

University degree in political science, international relations, European studies, project management, advocacy, development studies, communications, or other related field. Experience of working within an ethnically diverse and fast-paced office environment. Experience in the field of research and communication.

Experience with event organisation, including online events.

Computer proficiency. Experience with website development and maintenance as well as online conferencing tools is an asset.

Compensation:

ICMPD offers a monthly fee of EUR 500,00, and will provide accident insurance for the duration of the internship. However, travel expenses will not be reimbursed and Health insurance is the responsibility of the incumbent.

The internship does not constitute a commitment to future employment with ICMPD.
