Description
Electro-Mechanical Engineer in the Test Facilities and Test Methods Section, Test Centre Division, Mechanical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.
The Test Facilities and Test Method Section develops and improves the ESTEC Test Centre environmental test facilities, infrastructure and environmental test methods. In addition, technological research (R&D) activities in the above engineering fields are also carried out within the Section.
Duties
Reporting to the Head of Section and within the technical fields described above, your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- planning, developing and implementing upgrades to existing facilities from the Test Centre to improve their reliability, performance and productivity;
- planning, developing and implementing new test facilities to support the evolution of space test requirements;
- coordinating and supervising installation, assembly and acceptance activities conducted for the test facilities;
- assessing existing test facility operations with respect to safety, cost effectiveness and performance, and assessing customer requirements so as to recommend modifications for upgrading and replacing hardware and/or software;
- supporting the maintenance, calibration, operation and repair activities performed by the Test Centre service contractor;
- improving existing test methods, and developing new ones, in respect of technical performance, productivity, reliability and measurement quality;
- supporting the other sections in the Test Centre Division, as required;
- providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of environmental test facilities throughout all project phases;
- participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals;
- monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining state-of-the-art expertise;
- contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.

A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Physics is required.
Additional requirements
Knowledge of space project requirements, i.e. space environment, cleanliness and quality aspects, is an asset.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
