¿ In order to be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled:
o Be a recent graduates are to be considered those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying for an internship with UNHCR or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
o Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant IT and/or Telecommunications.
¿ Additional Knowledge of computer application packages such as MS Office.
o Should not have other paid employment (unless willing to leave if hired for this position)
The ideal candidate will:
¿ Have strong academic performance
¿ Demonstrate interest in the work of UNHCR
¿ Be a competent user of standard word processing and spreadsheet software
¿ Be able to commit to a full-time position from July 2020 for a minimum of 6 months.

UNHCR recognizes the important contribution that interns make by bringing new ideas and perspectives to the organization and seeks to ensure interns gain knowledge and practical experience related to their academic programme. Under the supervision of the Associate ICT Officer, the intern will learn how to;
¿ Provide day-to-day ICT support to the UNHCR Rwanda Staff and offices to ensure that ICT equipment, connections are all well set and operational.
¿ Respond to business needs.
¿ Keeping ICT equipment (computers, copiers, printers, routers, switches, etc.) in good working conditions, by inspecting regularly the hardware and installations. If required, in consultation with the Senior ICT staff in the office, arrange promptly repairs or replacement as necessary according to established procedures.
¿ Assist in accomplishing ICT support activities in such a way that:
o Stay abreast of ICT new developments in order to provide best support and service to UNHCR staff.
o Monitor and keep a log of all requests for support
o Respond to ICT Support requests timely to ensure minimum disruption of service.
¿ Assist in carrying out minor hardware maintenance.
¿ Provide technical briefing/training on the equipment or local ICT resources to staff, ensuring that they can maintain/use the equipment.
¿ Develop and configure ICT Equipment/Kits used in the operation.

Essential Minimum qualification and professional experience:

- Interns are not financially remunerated by UNHCR. Therefore, the internship agreement carries no financial obligations to UNHCR.
- Interns may not represent UNHCR in any official capacity.
- Costs and arrangement for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the Intern or his/her sponsoring institution. However, UNHCR will help with the visa application if applicable and advise accordingly.
- Interns are not subject to UN security evacuation procedures but may be assisted to leave the country when possible and to the extent feasible and on a reimbursable basis.
- UNHCR accepts on responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the Intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. As interns are not covered under any insurance, including MAIP, they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their internship with UNHCR.
- Interns are fully responsible for arranging medical insurance covering the full internship period. UNHCR accepts no responsibility for any costs connected to medical insurance of interns. A copy of proof of valid medical insurance covering the period of the contract is required by UNHCR. UNHCR does not cover the costs of medical evacuation of interns; therefore, interns working in locations where medical facilities are inadequate are advised to ensure that their medical insurance covers emergency medical evacuation. Furthermore, the health insurance selected by interns should provide the necessary geographical coverage for both accident and illness.

- The purpose of internships is not to lead to further employment with UNHCR (no regular appointment can be granted for 6-month after completion of internship) but to complement an intern's studies.

======================================================================================================== UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency's Branch office in Kigali, Rwanda, seeks an ICT Intern to assist staff in its ICT Unit. Note that this is an unpaid internship for ICT students.
The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Unit in Kigali is under the Administration Section, Supervised by the Senior Admin/Finance Officer. The unit, through the Associate ICT Officer supports the Rwanda Operation to lead, coordinate and deliver refugee operations, ensuring timely and accountable delivery of humanitarian assistance and protection. The work of ICT Unit encompasses almost anything digital within the operation, from mobile phones and radio, to internet, software and teleconferencing. The unit is responsible for ensuring availability of the technology tools needed to efficiently, effectively and safely carry out work to serve the Persons of Concern. Closing date for submissions or applications is 22 January 2021.
