Organizational Setting

The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO representatives, is to assistant governments to develop policies , programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.

The FAO Representation in South Sudan is organizes in five streams: emergency and resilience, natural resources and sustainable production, economic and social development, partnership and outreach and corporate and operational support stream. The current portfolio of projects in South Sudan includes activities related to agriculture (crop), livestock, Fisheries, Natural Resource management, food information systems is implemented with humanitarian, and development funding.

The incumbent will contribute to further the efforts of the FAOSS Logistics Unit in ensuring timely delivery of inputs related to the current portfolio of projects in South Sudan. This includes activities related to agriculture, livestock, fisheries and natural resource management.

Reporting Lines

The Driver will work under the overall supervision of Head of Yambio office and the direct supervision of the Log Assistant in Yambio.

Technical Focus

  • Facilitate and correct all repairs associated with a specific request from HoFo/management, including routine monitor of vehicles and/or emergency repairs.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Drive the office staff and their official visitors on official trips;
  • Meet staff and official visitors at the airport; facilitates immigration and customs formalities, hotel check-in, and other local procedures;
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and expenditures related to transportation/vehicles, vehicle servicing, and repairs;
  • Ensure day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s); checks oil, water, battery, tires, and performs minor repairs and arranges for any other repairs necessary to keep the vehicle safe and technically sound at all times in timely manner; maintains the vehicle(s) in a clean condition;
  • Handle local and organizational formalities when involved in an accident; ensures that in this case all organizational and national rules, regulations and procedures are followed correctly;
  • Collect and deliver mail, documents, pouches, and other communications/items to and from the country office; airport, government agencies, other UN agencies, institutions, project sites, etc., to take and deliver items and communications and keeps records as required;
  • Undertake the routine maintenance and repair of vehicles and mechanical equipment as necessary;
  • Diagnose vehicle and equipment faults and repairs as necessary;
  • Accurately record all work done and parts used in the format provided by the Logistics Office in Juba;
  • Specifically, carry out routine checks and preventative maintenance as per the manufacturer’s schedule;
  • Perform periodic maintenance on vehicles, such as changing batteries and motor oil at appropriate time, as well as refueling the car(s).
  • Report any case of accident, injury or damage of vehicles to the supervisor or manager.
  • Ensure that the UN vehicle is always parked in areas that permit parking in order to avoid towing.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by Supervisor.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of work experience as driver
  • Experience in a UN or international organization is an advantageous;
  • Possession of a valid South Sudan driver’s license is mandatory.
  • A flawless, safe driving record is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of English
  • Good knowledge of the local language is a strong advantage;
  • National of South Sudan.
