GAVI Accounting Unit

Financial Management Centre, UNICEF Supply Division

364 day temporary appointments

These positions are placed in the GAVI Accounting Unit (GAU) of the Financial Management Centre in UNICEF’s Supply Division. GAU is responsible for financial management of ca. $1.5 billion annual GAVI procurement services operations focused on procurement of vaccines and vaccine related supplies for GAVI eligible countries.  The scope of GAU’s work is forecast to increase substantially in 2021 and subsequent years as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.  UNICEF will handle the procurement of vaccines and vaccine related devices for the COVAX facility.  COVAX is co-led by the GAVI vaccines alliance, the WHO and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).  It is designed to discourage national governments from hoarding COVID-19 vaccines and to focus on first vaccinating the most high-risk people in every country.  Approximately 1.7 billion does are expected to be available through the COVAX facility in 2021.

The three temporary positions will support the Accounting Officer who is responsible for financial management and reporting for the GAVI procurement activity for the COVAX facility within UNICEF. The positions will support the Accounting Officer in ensuring that the financial accounting and reporting of the transactions related to the GAVI Trust Fund for procurement of COVAX vaccines and vaccine-related devices is accurate and in accordance with UNICEF’s Financial Rules and Regulations and donor agreements.
