Overview of position
CTG is looking to hire Communications Officer for our upcoming projects with our clients in country. 
Role objectives
Communications Officer

General description of duties:
Under the overall supervision of the requesting UN agency’s CO Representative/OIC, the
incumbent will be responsible for helping to enhance the information flow and visibility of the UN agency’s emergency assistance while highlighting reproductive health, gender and GBV issues related to the humanitarian response. Specifically, the incumbent will engage with electronic and print media sources, support national efforts and local campaigns, and advise the requesting UN agency’s Country Representative on available opportunities to strengthen their media presence.

The scope of the activities listed below may vary depending on the length of assignment and
phase of the crisis.

Engage with electronic and print media sources
  • Provide content, such as print and video stories, for UN agency’s global website and Voices.
  • Draft press releases, fact sheets and other rapid response materials for use by UN agency’s HQ, ROs, and Cos
  • Connect with international press corps and pro-actively pitch stories related to UN agency’s work
  • Assist in UN agency’s advocacy activities, including support to public events, visits of senior UN officials, field visits, workshops, and other UN and UN AGENCY’S initiatives
  • Scan the international and local media for information about or relevant to the UN agency’s work in-country
  • Provide weekly updates on situation in-country and the requesting UN agency’s work Provide Public Information Support to Haiti Country Office: (report to Country Rep and RCA as needed)
  • Assist the UN agency’s Representative and Regional Communication Advisor in preparing written materials, including speeches, talking points, articles, press releases, responses to coverage about the UN in the media, etc.
  • Establish close working relationships with UNCT members, senior UN personnel and communication officers with a view to identifying communication synergies and ‘one UN’ opportunities
  • Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with government, donors, civil society organizations and other relevant partners and identify opportunities for advocacy and communication partnerships Serve as the UN agency’s focal point for the Communication to Disaster Affected Community (CDAC)
  • Liaise with CDAC partners on on-going activities
  • Work with country team to ensure gender and GBV related information are incorporated through CDAC
  • Provide information on CDAC projects to HQ based media team, which can be pitched to international journalists

Qualifications/Experience/Skills:
  • At least five years experience in communications and/or public relations and/or journalism; preferably some experience with public information campaigns
  • Understanding of humanitarian paradigms relevant to Haiti and the sub-region
  • Experience in or familiarity with a humanitarian setting a major asset

- Fluent in English.
- Fluent in language spoken in country.
Team management
These roles do not have team management responsibility.
