Background Information - Job-specific

The needs of people in humanitarian emergencies and development contexts are bigger than ever before, and many people are vulnerable to social inequality, conflict, natural disasters, and displacement. With slow progress towards political solutions, many crises have become protracted, exacerbating human suffering. In light of these trends, ongoing systemic reforms have placed a specific focus on collective multi-stakeholder action, strengthened coordination, and collaboration across the humanitarian-development-peace spectrum by in-country leadership.

The Global Executive Leadership Initiative (GELI) was established in April 2020 as an initiative that serves the international system. GELI is hosted by UNOPs and managed by a global team based in Geneva, Switzerland, and the United States. The GELI training programmes are being co-designed by GELI with experts and partners that have been identified to support the design and delivery.

GELI is the first leadership learning programme designed for balanced participation by senior leaders from across the United Nations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. GELI supports leaders based in countries of operation to develop their leadership skills by providing learning opportunities and facilitating knowledge exchange through a network of senior peers, utilising a safe space to share ideas and identify actionable solutions.

Through its three learning pillars and a robust alumni network, GELI will provide a comprehensive package of continuous learning modules tailor-made to the needs of senior leaders, offering knowledge sharing opportunities and innovative tools.

Pillar 1:  Executive Leadership Programme Each year, one or more cohorts of up to 30 senior leaders based in countries of operation, with balanced participation from the United Nations, NGOs, and the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, will embark on a blended, tailor-made ambitious learning journey. The one-year programme includes three, five-day residencies, with a focus on leadership of the individual, leadership in teams, and transformative leadership. Pillar II: Field-Based Leadership Training In addition to the residential course, GELI will also offer in‑country and remote learning opportunities and support to leaders in humanitarian and development field operations. Pillar III: The Leadership Lab will provide a space to create, reflect and rethink the traditional ways that leadership works in humanitarian, development and peace operations. It will utilise an extensive network of leaders to inspire ‘outside the box’ thinking, exchange of knowledge, stimulate bottom-up innovation, and unleash the talents of the many and diverse range of people working in the humanitarian and development environment with the view to create new approaches to collective leadership, showcase good practices, publish research, and influence policymakers.

Purpose and Scope of Assignment

As GELI is standing up its programmes, the GELI Team, to strengthen its efforts to have the necessary technological back-end support structures, including productivity tools and business solutions. To this end, to strengthen the management team of the programme, GELI intends to recruit a Senior Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Project Manager to lead the initiative to institute a GELI CRM solution based on the Salesforce (SFDC) platform. The project will entail working with United Nations Secretariat entities to ensure that the GELI Salesforce instance being set up is interoperable with  existing UN Secretariat Salesforce instances. The scope of the project will include Accounts (organizations and individuals), Contacts,

Opportunities and Activities for the learning programmes. Additionally, will include Campaigns, fundraising, Donor Agreement management, and potentially Donor Reporting. The Salesforce interaction will be based on the ‘community licence’ to permit GELI staff, course participants, and partners to access and use elements of Salesforce as determined by GELI.
