Organizational Setting

 

The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) formulates and implements the IAEA's nuclear safety and security programme, which encompasses the IAEA's activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure, and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and nuclear security.
The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) is part of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security and reports to the Deputy Director General, Head of the Department. The IEC serves as the IAEA's focal point for preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies regardless of their cause, and for strengthening Member States' preparedness for response.

 

Main Purpose

 

The Consultant will provide expertise to the Incident and Emergency Centre related to the 2021 International Conference on the Development of Preparedness for National and International Emergency Response (EPR2021). He/she will also advise on activities of a Project on Regional Coordination of Coastal Emergency Preparedness and Response Arrangements of the non-EU Mediterranean Member States for port and maritime radiological emergencies.

 

Functions / Key Results Expected

 

The Consultant will\:

 

  •  Schedule meeting spaces, support preparation of programme committee and open ended working group meetings, prepare Conference programme and other materials, maintain Conference information on the INDICO conference website including tracking synopses. He/she will act as liaison for cross-departmental communication, including MTCD Publications and Conference Services sections, and interact with Member States related to programme committee and open ended working group meetings. Conference budget management, including tracking of expenses.
  • Advise on activities within the Project on Regional Coordination of Coastal Emergency Preparedness and Response Arrangements of the non-EU Mediterranean Member States for port and maritime radiological emergencies, related to design, conduct and evaluation of the regional exercise, delivery of expert missions and organization of training events.

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Master's Degree in natural sciences (i.e chemistry, physics etc).

  • Minimum of five years of relevant work experience.

  • Good oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or
    Spanish) is an asset.

 

 

Remuneration

  

The remuneration for this consultancy is a daily fee of up to a maximum of € 250, based on qualifications and experience. In case duty travel is required within the assignment, a daily subsistence allowance (DSA) and travel costs are provided. Health coverage and pension fund are the responsibility of the incumbent.
