Background Information - IAIG

The purpose of the Internal Audit and Investigations Group(IAIG) is to provide independent and impartial assurance and advice to improve UNOPS operations.  The group reports on the use of resources administered by UNOPS and the effectiveness of internal control systems; and enhances the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.   Furthermore, the Internal Audit and Investigations Group leads the Executive Director’s investigations into alleged fraud, corruption, waste of resources, abuse of authority or other misconduct and violations of UNOPS regulations, rules and administrative instructions.

Through our in-house data analytics initiative, IAIG is developing a suite of analytics for risk assessment of offices, compliance breaches and fraud detection. IAIG’s future work plan is targeted as improving our capacity for remote auditing, process mining and predictive analytics for smarter and faster audit engagement as well as knowledge sharing within the organisation.

Background Information - Job-specific

This is a technical role and requires the incumbent to have a strong technical background and reasonable business knowledge. The incumbent shall be part of the IAIG’s data analytics programme where he/she shall assist the data analytics specialist in developing key audit tests, interactive dashboards, risk assessment models as well as anomalies detection models

Functional competencies

Under the technical supervision of the Data Analytics Specialist, and under the overall guidance of the Manager of Internal Audit Section, the individual will support IAIG’s data analytics programme through the following and other related activities:

  • Assist the UNOPS’ Internal Audit and Investigations Group (“IAIG”) in performing data analytics tasks. Obtain transactional data from UNOPS ERP system, other systems and write SQL code to identify data anomalies and patterns in the data that warrant investigation.

  • Develop and design visualizations with IAIG requirements. 

  • Perform audit and investigative support work when required.

  • Participate in communicating orally and in writing, data analytics findings/results to management and making presentations to management.

  • Candidate is an independent thinker, a proactive “self-starter” and is able to teach others and better themselves in various data analytics, accounting and financial areas.

  • Perform other duties as required

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: 
  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent is required.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, economics or any relevant business and or quantitative field is  highly desirable, and may compensate for some of the required years of experience.  

Experience: 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in data analytics is required with a high school diploma. Within these 5 years, at least 1 year of SQL is required
  • Experience in visualization and compelling data storeying is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of Python and working with unstructured data is desirable 

  • Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform is desirable.

Language Requirements:
  • Full working knowledge of English.

  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
